808 provides the data so that markets can verify by cross checking policyID between on chain and social or other platforms. It can be automated by the market. The process does not need to be manual.  
I think your proposal [CIP - Decentralized Native Asset verification - #4 by havealoha](https://forum.cardano.org/t/cip-decentralized-native-asset-verification/94827/4) and this one are complimentary.
