_ **\> A hard fork is simply a BIG update to the software that a blockchain runs that requires all nodes to be updated. More minor and incremental updates can and do happen, but a hard fork means a new train is leaving the station and everyone needs to get on board for the network to continue in the intended way.** _

Get ready for a major upgrade on the Cardano network with the **Chang Hard Fork!** Cardano, known for its research-first development strategy, is transitioning into its final era, Voltaire, which will introduce decentralized governance.

The Chang Hard Fork comes in two parts: **Chang 1** kicks off governance features, and **Chang 2** unlocks the full potential for Ada holders to vote and shape the network’s future. This will implement CIP-1694, enabling all Ada holders to participate in governance.

This is more than just a tech upgrade—it’s Cardano empowering its community to take the reins. The journey to a truly decentralized, self-sustaining blockchain is just getting started!
