How is an asset different than a fingerprint?

How is an asset different than a fingerprint? Is the fingerprint representative of the current owner? Is there a timestamp associated with a fingerprint? If so, can Blockfrost be used to retrieve it?

A fingerprint is just a hash of the asset’s policy ID and token name. It doesn’t contain additional information (i.e., no timestamp or ownership). It is sort of a “nickname” for the asset that is a shorter and easier to read than the full identifier.

Here is a document that describes how to compute it from information that blockfrost and other tools provide: https://cips.cardano.org/cips/cip14/.
