So I originally posed this question in a different post discussing the New Balance coloured coins

> [@Colored Coins - How does it work and are they transferrable? Will Newbalance be locking up the coins they color for thier product?](https://forum.cardano.org/t/colored-coins-how-does-it-work-and-are-they-transferrable-will-newbalance-be-locking-up-the-coins-they-color-for-thier-product/27899/5):

but didn’t get a response, so thought I would ask it separately.

Can anyone point me to some (presumably IOHK) documentation that describes what information is stored in a transaction and how the additional data stored to “colour” a coin can be accessed? I am also interested to know what capacity this (or any other) additional field in a transaction can hold.

Well as a last resort there’s always the code… 😀
