🇻🇳 Cardano Vietnam x Over Guild: Cardano Builder Series Meetup #6: DeFi Protocols Deep Dive - Recap

Recap: Cardano Builder Series Meetup #6 — DeFi Protocols Deep Dive

Over Guild x Cardano Vietnam x NerdLabs
December 20, 2025 | Hanoi, Vietnam

The sixth installment of the Cardano Builder Series arrived in Hanoi on December 20, 2025, marking a clear transition from foundational learning to advanced protocol engineering.

Organized by Over Guild x Cardano Vietnam, in partnership with NerdLabs, this meetup focused on the architecture, design patterns, and scalability challenges involved in building production-ready DeFi protocols on Cardano.

Rather than revisiting basic concepts, the session targeted senior developers and solution architects ready to design the next generation of decentralized financial infrastructure.

:small_blue_diamond: Key Highlights

  • Total registrations: 72
  • Actual attendance: 25 ~ 30
  • Registration link: MEETUP #6 — DeFi Protocols Deep Dive · Luma
  • Demographics: High concentration of Senior Engineers and Solution Architects
  • Engagement: Deep technical discussions on concurrency, batching, and DEX throughput
  • Primary focus: DeFi protocol architecture optimized for the eUTXO model
  • Community takeaway:
Building DeFi on Cardano is not just about writing smart contracts — it requires a design-pattern-first mindset fundamentally different from EVM-based systems.

1. Opening

The meetup opened in a focused and technically rigorous atmosphere.

The organizing team framed the session by acknowledging both the current maturity of Cardano DeFi and the significant opportunity ahead for innovation. Rather than asking what can be built, the question shifted to:

How do we design DeFi protocols that are secure, scalable, and ready for real-world adoption?

This set clear expectations for a hands-on, architecture-driven discussion aimed at experienced builders.

2. Keynote Session — Engineering DeFi on Cardano

Topic: Blueprinting a DEX with NerdLabs
Speakers: Engineering team from NerdLabs

The keynote session deconstructed the internal architecture of a functional Decentralized Exchange (DEX) built on Cardano.

Key areas covered included:

The Concurrency Challenge

A deep dive into the eUTXO concurrency model and how batching mechanisms and order-book designs can transform perceived limitations into throughput advantages.

Protocol Architecture

Best practices for structuring validator logic for:

  • Liquidity Pools (LPs)
  • Swap execution
  • Deterministic transaction flows

Security-First Engineering

NerdLabs shared real-world insights into common DeFi vulnerabilities and emphasized the importance of self-auditing smart contracts before mainnet deployment.

This session connected theory with production-grade engineering discipline.

3. Hands-on Workshop — Senior Developer Architecture Lab

This was intentionally not a beginner workshop.

Participants were divided into teams and challenged to solve a real-world architectural problem:

The Task

Design the core logic for a Yield Farming Protocol on Cardano.

The Practice

Senior developers worked closely with NerdLabs mentors, focusing on:

  • Minimizing transaction size
  • Maximizing script efficiency
  • Avoiding eUTXO contention points

The Outcome

Teams presented their architectural diagrams and received immediate feedback on:

  • Performance bottlenecks
  • Design trade-offs
  • Optimization strategies specific to Cardano

The exercise reinforced that protocol design matters as much as code correctness.

4. Special Feature — Building with NerdLabs

A major highlight of the meetup was direct collaboration with NerdLabs, one of the ecosystem’s most experienced engineering teams.

Discussion topics included:

Mentorship

Participants gained insight into NerdLabs’ internal development workflow and their DeFi Product Suite.

Collaboration Opportunities

Exploration of how Vietnamese teams could:

  • Co-build new DeFi products
  • Integrate with existing NerdLabs infrastructure

Shared Vision

The session concluded with a roadmap discussion for launching a joint DeFi product, bridging local builder talent with global engineering standards.

5. Community Reflection

The feedback from participants was clear:

Hanoi builders are ready for “Hard Mode.”

The depth of technical discussion and architectural reasoning demonstrated that the Vietnamese Cardano community has matured beyond experimentation.
This meetup confirmed the presence of senior-level talent capable of building complex, high-value DeFi protocols on Cardano.

Acknowledgements

We extend our sincere thanks to NerdLabs for their technical leadership and openness in sharing real-world DeFi engineering practices.

We also acknowledge the continued support of the Cardano Foundation, Project Catalyst, and the broader Cardano ecosystem for enabling builder-focused initiatives that strengthen local communities.

Finally, thank you to all senior developers and architects who participated with focus, rigor, and a willingness to challenge assumptions. Your engagement made this meetup a meaningful milestone for advanced DeFi development in Vietnam.
