OdyC DAO Participation in AthensDAOx 2025

OdyC DAO, the Greek Cardano DAO, participated in the AthensDAOx 2025 event that took place in Athens, Greece, on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th of January, 2025.

AthensDAOx is the first community-run, two-day offline event, based on the concept of Solana Foundation HackerHouses. This was the third time the event had taken place in Greece. The organizers invited OdyC DAO to showcase our DAO, and the Solana community warmly embraced and welcomed all of us with a true spirit of solidarity and curiosity.

The event took place at Deree - The American College of Greece, a prestigious institution that stands as the oldest American-accredited college in Europe and has been offering transformative education and fostering international academic excellence for nearly 150 years.

On Saturday, OdyC DAO had the opportunity to present the DAO’s history, values, and vision for an open and collaborative future. Konstantinos Siagas and Anthony Agrios, both Founding Members of OdyC DAO, presented an “Epic Tale” to the audience. It’s the Web 3.0 version of the modern Odyssey, a passionate journey to educate the Greek community about Cardano and engage users in vibrant discussions about distributed ledger technology and its applications.

On the previous day, advocate Glafkos Mitsidis, another member of OdyC DAO, delivered a compelling keynote about the legal landscape with the advent of MiCA regulation in the European Union.

Both presentations captured the audience’s attention and sparked meaningful conversations.

During the event, members of OdyC DAO interacted with members of the Solana community and its rapidly expanding ecosystem while giving users of another blockchain the opportunity to learn about our friendly and welcoming DAO and gain exposure to the Cardano blockchain.

With an aim to bridge the gaps between these two communities and a focus on blockchain interoperability, which is high on Cardano’s agenda for this year, we concentrated on nurturing cooperation and fostering new relationships with different communities in our industry.

Furthermore, this event provided an excellent opportunity for us to better understand and learn from the best practices that other blockchains employ to run successful events, create strong and vibrant communities, and keep users deeply involved and engaged with their ecosystem. Solana truly excels in this area, and there are many important lessons that we in the Cardano ecosystem need to apply to improve our marketing approach.

While I do believe that Cardano is the only blockchain with the perfect community, it is absolutely true that we can and should employ some of these event strategies being used by other blockchains to yield improvement in results.

Yes indeed. We have the strongest community - there’s no doubt about it. But we need to capitalize on our community’s power and definitely improve our marketing efforts!

This Solana event happened this week, and on February 10th, another major Solana event will take place - and we’re talking about Greece, which is considered a very small & insignificant market.

It is therefore quite evident that any newcomer to this space is more likely to be exposed to Solana than Cardano, even by chance.

How can we get the Cardano Greece community together to discuss how the narrative could be changed? In fact every other community…

The Greek Cardano community is organized primarily through OdyC DAO. We have many ideas but need more support. For example, we submitted two proposals in the last Catalyst round (Fund13), one of which focused on marketing: organizing ‘Euphoria Expo,’ a major three-day event aimed at onboarding businesses and individuals from across Europe. The event would present real-world business cases (not theoretical discussions) and gather the entire European Community, especially since no other major event is currently organized in Europe. Unfortunately, we didn’t receive funding.

We are engaged in various other activities as well. For example, we organize workshops (the last one was in December - check here) with the support of the European Cardano Community, hold regular meetings on X and our Discord Channel, and generally strive to stay active with members contributing based on their available time. Nevertheless, our means are limited, and we cannot compete on equal terms with organizers of events like this one - it’s purely a matter of resources, not capabilities.

Of course, we are always eager to discuss new ideas and open to proposals. We welcome the community’s feedback and look forward to sharing our experiences with all stakeholders, whether here in the forum or during our upcoming sessions.

Conway is here to solve problems like these. As a DRep, you can make good use of the proposal functionality to request funding from the treasury. If the entire community agrees with the proposal, you will have the funds to implement.

  • You don’t need to be a dRep to propose a governance action. Everyone can do it.
  • But you do need 100 kADA deposit which is quite a hurdle. I don’t have those lying around.
  • The current budget process as it is invented at Intersect because they think they have the mandate for it would look quite different: You cannot just do a treasury withdrawal proposal. That a certain project should be done would have first to be written into one of the proposed “budgets”. The money is then withdrawn to the entity managing that budget – Intersect wants to do it if the dReps don’t have the spine to stop that bureaucracy. And then the working groups at Intersect start the “tender” process for that and maybe you are chosen as the one who is allowed to do that thing, maybe someone else.
