This makes a lot of sense. Would there be any mechanism to lock you out for a period of time if you do get elected to increase the chances of others who have not been elected to be elected?
It would mean lock out not me but the entire pool was elected…it would be interesting to know…
How many epochs in a year? 73 (5 days between each?) Each epoch is one chance for a pool to be drawn? And K number of pools we want is what - 1000? Would not that mean that they have an equal chance to be drawn 73 times in a year so the chance of one out of the 1000 pool getting drawn for one epoch is 0,001 * 73 = 7.3%. Would that mean people could go staking for a full year without any reward and also that the barrier to entry for any new pool also needs to assume running hardware costs well over a year before getting any staking profit (on average) ?
Stake pools will be selected for blocks, not epochs.
Otherwise it means you would give power to a single entity for 5 days …
Right. So one slot is 120 seconds in an epoch and there is a new lottery every single slot? Then it seems very fine to randomize what pool is selected as even 1000 pools should be picked quite often during a year.
Bit confused regarding Epochs as well if it is 20 hours or 5 days?
In this document one epoch is 20 hours.
in this
where it says on p.42 “The available rewards for one epoch (assuming an equilibrium state with k pools and noticing that there are 365/5 = 73 epochs per year) will be”
In any case the random draw of a pool seems fine for me and not a big problem as the big 1000 or 100 will be picked quite often.
