Use of prereqs.sh script is deprecated this script is no longer going to be maintained

Seriously, managing your system by running scripts written by some unknown which are un-audited and pages long calling other scripts pages long with environment variables everywhere is a MASSIVE SECURITY RISK.

I don’t think it is a good idea to encourage this method of system maintenance especially for new users.

On the one hand, I tend to agree with you and have written similar things in the past.

On the other hand, the one on one support would be impossible to handle without those copy and paste guides, I fear.

i agree with you. without the guides on these forums newbies like me would not be able to spin up a node at all.

For most use cases of nodes – development as well as pool operation – it would actually be something between really, really good and necessary to also learn enough Linux, Unix, system administration to understand those guides, the errors that can happen, be able to understand most error messages yourself and just need those guides as a reminder to not forget a step.

Of course, every learning has to start somewhere. We cannot provide full Linux courses here. And we don’t want to be too unfriendly/elitist. But the “copy and paste until the error goes away somehow” methodology does not really nudge to (even slowly) trying to understand what exactly happened and why.

I’m very unsure what the right way to go would be.

i’m sure it is somewhere in the middle. I used a youtube video and then alexs guide to spin up my first node. As time goes on i have learned a lot and even started taking some courses on udemy. I think keeping the barrier low too start for those interested and then those who are actually serious about stake pool operating will tough it out.

Thanks guys,

I deleted the topics related the scripts
