Daedalus Rewards: Total (ADA) vs. Unspent (ADA)

I’m trying to reconcile some wallet numbers. I had 7 wallets and then a couple years ago consolidated them to 3. I also moved ADA around so that each had about the same amount. Today if I add my Total (ADA) rewards earned to my original amount of ADA purchased it comes up short by quite a bit. I know nothing has been lost. It must have something to do with the steps I went through to consolidate 7 wallets down to 3.

I withdrew rewards to get them into a wallet that I intended to close. Then moved that ADA to where I wanted. I’m getting confused as to how to calculate the total ADA I have and the numbers I’m seeing reported in the Rewards panel of Daedalus. Of the 3 wallets I now have the Total (ADA) is equal to the Unspent (ADA) in 2 wallets but not so in the 3rd. In that one the Total (ADA) is almost 3 times what the Unspent (ADA) is.

I’m curious as to how this worked?

Total Rewards Balance
Total rewards balance is total rewards that you earned since you first delegated the wallet till now.

Unspent Rewards Balance
Unspent Rewards balance is your Rewards balance that your rewards address has currently.

Note:

• When you create a transaction from Daedalus to a different wallet, Daedalus automatically consumes your rewards balance from the Rewards address first. This is desirable because rewards balance cannot be used to pay fees, therefore, it will prevent the wallet to have rewards balance only.
• After you created a transaction from Daedalus, the Unspent rewards balance will be all withdrawn and become 0 balance.
• The difference will be sent to your payment address so the total wallet balance is still the same.
• Your Daedalus wallet balance contains Rewards balance. (Rewards earned by delegating your stake are automatically collected into your reward account and added to your wallet balance.)

Yes it does. I was confused between the wallet total, total rewards, unspent rewards, and how I could use those numbers to figure out what I’ve earned in rewards since day 1. What I was doing was adding up the Total Rewards and then adding that to my original purchase number of ADA. That was coming up short. If I understand correctly I should sum up my total wallet numbers and from that subtract my original purchase numbers to get the total of ADA I’ve earned in the last 5 years.

Based on the linked article since I moved ADA around between some wallets rewards got brought into the wallet balance. I’m not able to distinguish the original purchase numbers inside the wallet since rewards were now commingled.

Adding total rewards to original purchase should work. It could come up short because you have spent ADA (including deposits and fees).

It should be: Original purchases plus total rewards minus payments, deposits, and fees equals current balance.

Which rewards are still unspent is irrelevant for this since rewards are included in the current balance if they are withdrawn or not.

At one point I was staked to 7 pools and then moved 4 of them to 3. I’m sure this is where it happened. I could go through my transactions and figure it out but I know enough now about it.

I’ll consider my current status as a new baseline and track from there.
