Daedalus Wallet-1600 ADA disappeared-was I hacked?

This is the ID of the transaction that occurred on January 11th:
“cb88b300d437c1d25849abf5ea9a5689c1185204e37ef4ff1e775542c0a2511c” , until now I don’t understand what the hell happened.

At https://cexplorer.io/ we found the transaction but how can we go deeper and try to identify who received these resources?

Ah, a different one. Okay, then forget what I said about not taking (almost) everything.

As said above, the DdzFFzCq…NN2RTa address is almost certainly a deposit address of Huobi, a centralised exchange: https://www.htx.com/
You can try to approach them yourself, with the help of a lawyer, or with the help of law enforcement in your country to see if you can find out anything about who received those assets, if they can still be blocked or if they were cashed out and to where.

As to what happened: Hard to tell.

  • The most common attack is on the seed phrase. Did you give it to a (fake) support channel or website? Did you store it in some online storage that might have been hacked?
  • Also always possible is malware on your computer that has taken the encrypted private keys from your wallet app – Yoroi – and has either grabbed your spending password (which is necessary to decrypt the private keys) or brute-forced it (if it was simple enough).

The transaction was very surely not done from Yoroi. Yoroi doesn’t allow to withdraw rewards at the same time as sending to another address.

  • This excludes another common attack: You were probably not tricked into signing a malicious transaction.

I mean how likely is it that even if we knew where the funds went that we could have the transaction reversed and recover funds? I’m thinking less than 10%. I just need to document the hack and take is as a loss/theft on my taxes.

Including BlockFi (institutional theft-lol), this is like my 3rd loss of crypto assets…luckily these are/were just smaller, leftover side projects for me. I’m in CA, where they made staking illegal (such idiots), so ai was using Daedalus not Coinbase.

This was disheartening but not a devastating loss for me-kind of like getting the radio stolen out of your vehicle-at least they didn’t steal the whole car.

I also had my Coinbase Wallet (not exchange account thankfully) cleaned out about a week after this one. I accessed both wallets on the same laptop and both had seed phrase screenshots in cloud storage-so ultimately I have no one to blame but myself for the ill advised, lax security…

Just being sad and taking this as a warning shot across the bow to properly secure my remaining assets.

I will try to contact HTX support to explain what happened and see what they say and if I can recover the resources sent incorrectly.
