Interesting article regarding the impact of quantum computers on cryptography

Few things:

  • Deeply skeptical about whether or not quantum computers can be mass-produced. We tend to have faith in technology just getting there automagically. Which means…
  • Quantum computers will be machines for large organizations and the moneyed. I doubt someone will build one in their garage.
  • So, preparing cryptographic protocols to be quantum resistant is EXTREMELY important.

But let’s put it into perspective. Right now, we have machines running 128 qubits. To comfortably break 2048-bit RSA, a machine would need millions of qubits.

So – the important thing here is to prepare. Because this Y2Q, if it comes, won’t happen tomorrow.

Team IOHK definitely on it.
