Interview - Cardano NFTs #051: VAULT3

Original Placement:

Today’s guest on the Cardano NFT Column is a file sharing service that leverages web3 components like wallets, and crypto assets to be used as keys to access confidential data: VAULT3.

The previous guest was a project building the first managerial game around motorcycle racing, with trophies, drivers and more as NFTs within the game.

This initiative is a point of reference for NFTs on Cardano and every week or two we will invite someone to answer some questions and give us an update directly from within the Cardano community.

Hey, glad to have you here. Please introduce your team, where are you from, what are your backgrounds?

Thank you for having us! VAULT3’s team has at the moment 3 co-founders:

Carolina Isler (a.k.a. LaPetiteADA) is our CMO. She is a well-known Cardano influencer and SPO from Switzerland. LaPetite is building VAULT3 by creating strong marketing campaigns, securing key partnerships in the ecosystem, growing our community, and ensuring that we stay close to our users.

Aaron Schmid is a brilliant data scientist and smart contract developer. He is Swiss, and before founding the Geniish Protocol, he has been working as CTO for a Swiss MedTech solution. Aaron will be key for our product development and multichain plans.

Vito Melchionna is a polyglot, an SPO, and a full stack developer with more than 7 years of experience. He’s Italian but was born in Venezuela. After co-founding the Geniish Protocol, a confidential NFT protocol, he’s ready to build privacy-enabled solutions on Cardano.

What is VAULT3? What problems does it solve and how can it be used by NFT projects/holders?

VAULT3 is the web3 data gating service. Essentially, it’s a file sharing service that leverages web3 components like wallets, and crypto assets (NFTs, and FTs) to be used as keys to access confidential data. Currently, web2 file sharing apps only offer 2 options: sharing files with a list of email addresses, or sharing a public link to access the data with several users dynamically. The first option is cumbersome and expensive (especially in web3) because it requires a lot of effort to gather this data and to enter long lists of emails. And the second option doesn’t allow controlling who can access the data.

We are innovating by introducing the feature of access policies, which are customizable conditions to access the shared files. With VAULT3, it’s possible to easily share files with large audiences.

Besides enhancing all existing Cardano native assets with RealFi utility, we are also revolutionising how web3 marketing is done. Creators, artists, influencers, projects and companies can use our solution to securely share confidential files exclusively with their fans, investors, and communities while keeping control of who accesses their data. This will open up the doors to a universe of new use-cases, and new ways of interacting with NFT holders while offering them extra value.

Tell us more about your Project Catalyst proposals. How will the funding help your project?

Thanks to the hard work of Aaron and Vito in the past months, we managed to deliver a working prototype, and we are looking forward to seeing how the Cardano community receives and uses our app. This prototype will also help us find a market fit, and to showcase the product since it’s an innovative concept. We need funds to accelerate our development and to deliver a face-melting solution that will disrupt the file-sharing market with a new use case while showcasing the capabilities of web3.

To achieve this, we have two Catalyst proposals for Fund10. Our main proposal is to fund the development of a fully featured solution for creators and communities. Finally, we have a secondary proposal to build a plugin for NMKR studio to enable NFT creators to easily add RealFi utility to their collections and also to share exclusive experiences with their holders within a few clicks.

Please check them out, and if you enjoy using VAULT3 and like what we are building, we would love to count on your vote!

What does the future hold for VAULT3? What other functionalities do you have in mind?

Currently, we only support whitelists of Cardano addresses. But we are planning to include policy Ids and stake pools to our access policies very soon. We will also build an admin dashboard to keep track of the traction of each drop (successful downloads, call-to-action clicks, rejections, etc.).

VAULT3 currently uses decentralized storages like IPFS (and soon the Iagon network). However, we aim to become a trustless solution in the future by delegating the encryption keys to a trustless protocol. Thanks to our experience building on-chain confidential solutions, we know how to achieve this, but we need funding and active users before implementing this important milestone.

Amazing. Any closing remarks? Where can people learn more about VAULT3?
