Original Placement:
Today’s Cardano NFT project is a fully in-browser anime MMOARPG featuring PVE Expedition modes, PVP Arena modes and advanced guild mechanics: Realm of Titans.
The previous guest was a web3 project which forms part of a fantasy world called the Elderworld.
This column is where I invite NFT projects to share their stories and vision as a way to connect with and learn about the Cardano Community.
Hey, glad to have you here. Please introduce your team, where are you from, what are your backgrounds?
Thanks so much for having me. My name is Will Baker, I am the co-founder and CEO of Interplanetary Games. My brother, Luke Baker, is the co-founder and CTO. I am an experienced entrepreneur and product designer. Luke is an experienced software and game developer.
We are a UK-based team. Toby Sperrin, founder of VFLabs, assists us with our blockchain strategy and tokenomics. Jovan Ilic, web developer, builds our platform interface. Usamah Himday, legal advisor, assists us with our legal strategy.
What is Realm of Titans (ROT)? How are you integrating NFTs and blockchain technology into gaming?
ROT is a fully in-browser anime MMOARPG featuring PVE Expedition modes, PVP Arena modes and advanced guild mechanics. We aim to release Galaxy Gridlock in Q2–3 of this year, where guilds will be able to battle each other for territory on the galactic map. Guilds will be able to harvest resources, including DUST, that will be useful for crafting and upgrading items in the Forge.
Expeditions are set to launch shortly after Galaxy Gridlock. Players will be able to experience Terra, territory of Earth, and battle mobs and bosses to level up and earn rewards. Players will eventually be able to visit all nine territories, each with unique native creatures and environments.
Arena mode is a PVP mechanic allowing players to wager resources and rank up on the leaderboards. The combat mechanics and environments of the Arena will be the same as Expeditions, so players will be able to practice combat skills pre-launch of Arena. We aim to launch the Arena mode after Expeditions, and when we have the player base to support advanced matchmaking.
NFTs and FTs are only deposited/withdrawn at the Intergalactic Bridge. Once assets are deposited, they are usable in-game. Once they are withdrawn, they are exchange-able on NFT marketplaces and fungible exchanges.
Galaxy Dust ($DUST) is a single currency acting as a governance and game token. DUST will be exchangeable for all in-game assets across the ROT universe and will be used to pay fees for game features including the Forge, Arena, Marketplace and Guilds framework.
What are your thoughts about the critique of NFTs and Play-to-Earn from the traditional gaming community? Saying it leads to Pay-to-Play and cash-grab mechanics?
While our main revenue stream is in-game cosmetics (purchasables that do not affect in-game stats or balancing), DUST could theoretically be purchased and used to give players an unfair advantage. Hence, we prioritise game balancing via in-game experience blocks. For instance, Pluto (the rarest playable Titan character) would require an account with a certain level of experience in order to play, regardless of ownership of said Titan.
By designing in-game pay-to-win deterrents, we aim to foster a healthy in-game economy and project growth by balancing the elements of P2P and F2P.
Initially disembarking on Cardano, you’re now expanding towards Polygon and Immutable, can you share more about your blockchain strategy?
We aim to present our players with as much choice for blockchain as possible. Our unique blockchain strategy, of depositing digital assets to play and withdrawing digital assets to exchange, means we can adopt multiple chains and scale at speed.
ROT began on Cardano with the initial sale of Elder Planet NFTs in mid 2021 and soon after our partnership with Immutable secured our expansion to Polygon. We are keen to grow our community beyond just Cardano and will be making significant strides this year to on-board players from Polygon and other chains.
More information regarding our blockchain strategy can be found here.
Great contribution. Any final thoughts? Where can people learn more about ROT?
Thank you for your questions. I’m very excited for this coming bullrun and the excitement around GameFi.
After three years of first-hand experience in the Web3 space, I am confident that ROT will be one of the leaders in Web3 gaming.
