Decimals are not actually supported at all on-chain. You can’t send partial tokens this is just a visual trick the token registry supplies for display labels in wallets and the like. The wallets, exchanges, and other apps don’t have to support this or care at all. The 6 decimal places are based on 1000000 lovelace being equivalent to 1 ada. However you can alias to your heart’s content to achieve the same end goal of having more divisibility.
Mint 535,000,000,000,000,000,000 of A
Alias 1,000,000 of A as “B”
Alias 1,000,000,000,000 of A or 1,000,000 of “B” as “C”
and so on …
You then have the options of showing A, “B”, “C”, etc in your application as well as equivalent ADA, lovelace, dollars, and cents labels if an exchange provides a market. Of course any minted tokens are inherently worthless without a purpose that would create demand for a market to emerge …
