Cardano Community Developer Spotlight – March 2021

Cardano Community Developer Spotlight – March 2021

Written by @elliothill at the Cardano Foundation

Hello, Cardano community,

At the Cardano Foundation, we recognize the fantastic work our community does, especially those who are diligently building, educating, and exploring what Cardano has to offer at this early stage in our development.

As a decentralized protocol, much of the innovation and applications, which emerge as Cardano transitions into Goguen will come from you—our ecosystem participants. As a result, the Cardano Foundation is pleased to bring you the fourth installment of our monthly Cardano Community Developer Spotlight blog, recognizing our diverse and dedicated community.

Each month, the Foundation will be selecting a couple of interesting community-led projects to discover and share with our wider ecosystem. We hope this will encourage those who are already building solutions on Cardano to keep moving forward, while also helping to inspire those thinking of building on Cardano to get started and collaborate.

So, let’s check out who and what is under the spotlight in March 2021. This month, we will focus on both educational content and stake pool tools.

1. Cardano on the Rocks

Cardano on the Rocks is a free educational project by CLIO1, which teaches users to build a Cardano node on a Rock Pi microcomputer.

Cardano on the Rocks describes the variety of hardware options you can choose from, all the way to how you can install and configure your stake pool on your Rock Pi computer. There are even instructions on how to 3D-print your very own case, pictured above, for your Rock Pi node!

It’s a particularly interesting project for those who care about energy usage and requirements, as RockPi units only use up to 18 watts of power, as opposed to ASICs miners used in PoW blockchains that reach many hundreds of watts of power usage. Thank you, @werkof, for your contributions!

2. JorManager

JorManager is an indispensable node-monitoring tool built by community member Andrew Westberg. Available through Bitbucket, JorManager provides tools and components for tracking stake pool performance, modifying pool fees, editing pool metadata, creating nodes, and more.

If you’re a new stake pool operator and you want a command center to help manage your pool, then JorManager is a fantastic resource. You’ll find everything you need to get started here. You could even use these stake pool tools to manage your newly created RockPi pool!

Thank you @AndrewWestberg, your resources help our stake pool operator community work efficiently. Keep building!

How are projects or people selected?

The Cardano Foundation keeps a close eye on the development of its ecosystem, and we are always pleased to see new innovators exploring our technology.

We choose our spotlight at random. The Cardano Foundation does not have any degree of bias for any particular project, nor do we select according to the size or scope of the project. Stake pools and general ecosystem-news podcasts are not included, but anyone building unique solutions on Cardano can be selected for our community spotlight.

Naturally, you have to start building to be selected—if you are wondering where to start, why not sign-up to our Developer Portal waiting list? We will send you exclusive developer-focused content, and you will be among the first to know when new components come online.

A huge thank you to this month’s spotlight projects for their efforts. Please stay tuned for next month’s Community Spotlight.

Great thread! Id really like to see more of those. Maybe monthly?

Give the people who put so much time into this network a stage so that they are noticed by the community.

Cheers

Hey @Zyroxa!

We’ve been putting these out monthly since November, with the exception of December because we had so many other tasks on! That’s exactly why we started I fully agree, it’s really important. I am sure that as our ecosystem grows, these articles will grow too. Thanks! Read the others here:
