Clarification on Cardano Logo Usage

I’m unsure about the trademark and copyright implications of using the Cardano logo in similar ways. I want to ensure that using the attached symbol is permissible and won’t cause any concerns with the Cardano Foundation.

The background is that we are developing a decentralized messaging platform on Cardano called Libertas. Our chains start with ‘+’ like +Cardano,’ as the primary chain to discuss all things Cardano, etc… and the ‘+’ symbol represents its significance both on the blockchain and in the mathematical proofs utilized by Haskell.

Thoughts anyone over a CF?

Based on the Cardano Foundation’s trademark policy, section 2.2.8:
You may not use or register, in whole or in part, the Marks as part of your own trademark, service mark, domain name, company name, trade name, product name, or service name in any part of the world

It seems that we would need to request permission to integrate our proposed design?

However, a friend mentioned that the design might be different enough, given the inclusion of a “+” symbol, differences in spacing, and the number of circles, that permission might not be required, as it is not similar enough to the original Cardano logo.

If anyone from the CF reviews this post, I want to note that I have already sent an email through the contact section at the bottom of the website. However, please feel free to DM me if you have additional questions or need further details for a quicker resolution.
@indi_gital , @Cardano-Foundation, @adatainment @dennyb2010, @lodl_de is this something you can help with?

As I believe you did already I’d go first email: legal@cardanofoundation.org for formal review and ensuring clear branding to highlight your independence.

Your design, while unique, might still resemble the Cardano logo enough to cause confusion, so explicit permission is likely required under section 2.2.8 of the Trademark Policy.

Adding a disclaimer or using the original logo when referring the relation with Cardano also I think can be clarifying. I am not the expert here anyway :slight_smile:
