Cardano Programmable Tokens Are Here: CIP‑0113

On March 9, 2026 the Cardano Foundation announced the launch of the Programmable Tokens Platform and the open‑source CIP‑0113 standard - a moment marking quite an important step forward in Cardano’s native asset capabilities by giving token issuers a shared way to attach and enforce customizable on‑chain rules directly to native tokens. According to the update, programmable tokens will allow compliance logic like transfer restrictions, asset freezes, or jurisdiction‑specific requirements to be embedded in assets themselves and automatically upheld by the network, addressing a longstanding gap for regulated and institutional use cases where bespoke solutions were previously required.

The update also acknowledges the history of this work: as per the Foundation, CIP‑0113 builds on the earlier CIP‑0143 specification for interoperable programmable tokens developed by Philip DiSarro and Jann Müller from IOG, whose reference implementation established the core architectural patterns that CIP‑0113 inherits. Before that, Michele Nuzzi from Harmonic Labs was among the very first to explore programmable token implementations on Cardano, and Matteo Coppola Mazzetti from FluidTokens has been an active collaborator on CIP‑0113. These early explorations helped pave the way for the current standard and the tooling the Foundation has brought together.

According to the update, the standard and its tooling are already available on a Preview testnet sandbox so builders can explore programmable token use cases today, and the launch has been welcomed by the community as an important infrastructure milestone toward broader adoption of regulated tokenization on Cardano.

This development has been widely seen as an important infrastructure milestone toward regulated tokenization and broader institutional participation in the ecosystem. Read the full blog here: https://cardanofoundation.org/blog/programmable-tokens-cardano

Oh..and…uhh..If you’re a developer, or simply want to deepen your understanding of CIP‑0113 and what it means for the future of Cardano, join a Special Dev Office Hours session with Giovanni Gargiulo from the Cardano Foundation. He will provide a deep dive into CIP‑0113, exploring how programmable tokens work and what opportunities they unlock for builders. For more details, and for the link to join, click here.

In the second video Peter interviews Samiz Bayan, Partner at Draper Dragon, to explore the proposed Orion Fund, an ~$80M ecosystem initiative backed by Draper Dragon and the Cardano Foundation. The discussion covers key safeguards such as tranche-based funding, treasury repayment priority, community oversight, transparency mechanisms, and the role the fund could play in supporting Cardano startups.

  • Cardano Yoda
Cardano Yoda recently shared a thoughtful and well-written post on the topic of node diversity. In it, he reflects on the challenges of developing alternative Cardano nodes such as Amaru, Dingo, and Gerolamo. Rather than rushing toward diversity for its own sake, he argues that true robustness comes from a careful and gradual approach, one that still keeps the majority of the network on the Haskell node while alternative implementations mature Read the full post here

  • Midnight Network Fireside Dev Hang with TxPipe
On March 11, 2026, the Midnight Foundation hosted a Fireside Dev Hang with TxPipe. Updates from the Cardano Foundation

The Cardano Foundation has shared several exciting updates recently, highlighting real-world adoption, practical blockchain use, and global community engagement.

One highlight is the Plastiks case study, where Cardano is used to verify plastic recovery data across multiple countries. By connecting formal and informal recycling networks, Plastiks delivers immutable measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) data for governments, enterprises, NGOs, and investors driving circular economy efforts. Verified recovery data can even be converted into Plastic Credits, unlocking private capital while supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Want to hear more? Check out the full case study here: Plastiks Case Study

You can also listen to a deep dive on Plastiks’ approach in a recent podcast featuring CEO André Vanyi-Robin, COO Ana Aguilar Meca, and Head of Methodology and Verification Delfina Achinelly, exploring how blockchain anchors environmental evidence and issues digital recovery certificates.

Another standout example is Brick Towers, which brings Cardano into everyday financial life. By integrating blockchain assets with regulated banking infrastructure through the urble app, consumers can hold, spend, and save ada in real time at 137 SPAR supermarkets in Switzerland. This approach lowers merchant fees, reduces friction, and enables regulated financial integration, showing practical adoption of Cardano outside the speculative space. Full details are available in the Brick Towers Case Study

And then there was the Cardano Summit 2025 - the events that showcased global community engagement and enterprise adoption. With a flagship hub in Berlin and regional events in the US, LATAM, India, and Kenya, the Summit had welcomed thousands of attendees, hundreds of developers, and dozens of hackathon projects. Among the participants were enterprises like Johnson & Johnson, Volvo, Novo Nordisk, Mastercard, UNDP, and the European Commission. Across the board, the events delivered learning, networking, and real-world discussions on blockchain adoption, governance, and developer onboarding. Read the full recap here: Cardano Summit 2025

Updates from the Input Output Group

IOG has shared some notable updates from the ecosystem over the past weeks.

As per one of their recent updates, in just seven days, 15M+ USDCx moved onto the network, representing about 37% of Cardano’s stablecoin liquidity. Major pools quickly formed, including a $6.67M NIGHT/USDCx pool on Minswap and a $5.38M USDCx/USDM pool on SundaeSwap. Liqwid saw around 3M USDCx supplied to its lending markets. Bridge activity processed 6,100+ transactions, all without infrastructure issues.

Building on the theme of sustainable growth, a recent IOG blog post explains the DeFi Kernel, which focuses on planting the minimum foundation for a resilient financial ecosystem rather than cloning TradFi features. The framework centers on three core elements: payments, a non-margin credit market, and an order-book-based asset exchange. As per the post, this approach prioritizes stability, long-term growth, and reduced volatility. Read the Full Blog Here

Finally, IOG shared research on geographic diversity in decentralized networks. According to the authors, incentivizing nodes to truthfully declare their locations strengthens resilience against geopolitical, regulatory, and infrastructure risks. Their models and experiments show how carefully designed mechanisms can improve network robustness. Read the paper.
