@Eystein_Hansen When he says “this goes DOUBLE if you’re not a man!” that is discrimination based on gender and it is illegal in the USA. Not sure if it is illegal in Hong Kong or where ever the job site is located. Now of course hundreds of places like Hooters only hire women wait staff but you know what I mean. It’s not very professional to go about it this way.
The second issue is that IOHK needs to be hiring the MOST QUALIFIED CANDIDATES, not hiring people because they have an XX chromosome or and XY chromosome.
Well obviously there is a problem with the tweet because Darryl McAdams deleted it from their twitter account and all references to IOHK. It’s that simple. Darryl knows he screwed up.

With some good will you could also interpret it as he highly encourages women / other to apply without giving any preference to who will actually get the job. But yeah I agree it was not the best of wordings and if the intent was not for the best to get the job I disagree with it myself as well.

That all sounds very nice, but the job listing is still up as written, so I suppose the answer to my original question is “yes, we endorse this as a hiring practice”.
I didn’t know this would get so much attention, but since I already received an answer, I just want to state for the record that I do not believe in the idea of trial by court of public opinion. IOHK should hire who they please and conduct (internal) operations as they see fit, I just asked because I think potential investors deserve for that information to be available for consideration.
The job listing wasn’t the issue, it was the tweet. The tweet didn’t reflect the listing, nor the views of IOHK. They hire based off merit and leave personal things in the personal life - as they should. Since this person decided to put this out there, then they responded by saying that they will not hire based off of anything other than merit. However, they highly encourage people to be themselves and express their beliefs as long - as it doesn’t compromise the beliefs of the organization.
It was a tactful way of addressing the situation without putting down their own employee, their investors, or any one particular group of people.

Right, my point is that the tweet is still up, and some people (myself included) might find it difficult to reconcile what’s written in Charles’ response with the way they’re allowing the person in charge of the project to publicly advertise the position.
@dbaker110 The tweet is long gone. It was gone last night. I went straight to Darryl McAdams twitter feed and that data was cleared out.
You may be seeing cached data, or you are looking at the web archive link. (Those web archive links are like permanent as the pyramids of Egypt)

This shows the very nature of IOHK’s hiring practice in that they do not discriminate in any way, but rather will hire based on merit and fit for the role.
He also brings up the need to allow individuals to have their own opinions/voice. Quote from the blog again: "We never censor our employees nor ask them to remain silent on the issues that are most important to them.
As a company, IOHK tries to embrace neutrality. It frankly isn’t IOHK’s place to choose sides in these debates. It’s just our place to ensure they don’t consume our business operations and fiduciary obligations."
In this case, Darryl was reaching out and promoting women and non-binary individuals to apply - it shouldn’t be taken in any other context. Of course I can’t speak for Darryl here, but I don’t believe there was any malicious implication of male discrimination. As a female in this industry myself, any form of support or encouragement to join in is much appreciated! And I think it’s great that IOHK supports their employees to voice their opinion whether it is something that may or may not be accepted by the general public. My 2 cents
