If I’m not mistaken, I believe chain density represents the amount of active nodes in the ecosystem that are running a supported version of the Cardano software. The higher the number, the healthier the network.

The density measures the actual block production rate.
4.872 / 5.0 => 97.44%
of blocks are actually produced.
It follows, that density is an overall network metric and not so much a metric of how well your particular node performs.
