BikeID – Proof of Bike: Advancing Real-World Adoption on Cardano

I recently came across BikeID – Proof of Bike, and I’m genuinely impressed by the scale and vision behind it.

The problem is simple but massive: unlike cars with VIN numbers, bicycles have no universal identity system. This makes them highly vulnerable to theft, fraudulent resales, and ownership disputes, costing riders and the global cycling industry billions each year.

BikeID solves this with the Bicycle Identification Number (BIN) — a secure digital identity anchored on Cardano. Each bicycle registered becomes a verifiable on-chain asset, creating real utility for riders, manufacturers, retailers, insurers, and even cities.

Why this matters for Cardano:

  • BikeID has already been shortlisted by the Cardano Foundation in Fund 14, one of just 23 projects selected from 158 reviewed proposals.
  • They’ve signed with ROMET, Poland’s largest bicycle manufacturer. Starting in 2026, 500,000 bikes per year will roll off the line with BIN embedded.
  • That’s half a million new users annually — riders, retailers, insurers, and service providers — all interacting with Cardano through BikeID.

This is industrial-scale adoption, with the potential to onboard millions of users and prove Cardano’s role as the blockchain for real-world assets.

If you’re following Catalyst Fund 14, this is a proposal worth paying attention to. Search BikeID in the Catalyst app to learn more and support it.
