Call for Artwork: Design the New Cardano.org Header

Thanks for the reply.

My submission is an interactive header using webgl code.
The description says to PR to an “artwork-contest” branch, but the branch does not exist. Whoever wrote code cannot submit a PR at the moment. Can you please let us know how to submit our code? Thank you.

This may be helpful. :arrow_down_small:

How is this helpful? The branch does not exist, we cannot create it ourselves… I don’t understand what is not clear about the problem. The component you are linking to is fine, I have already forked the repo and wrote my code in that component days ago… but the branch “artwork-contest” does not exist, I repeat - it does not exist, we cannot create a PR to submit the code. Please create the branch “artwork-contest” in the original repository so we can open pull requests into it. Am I not being clear enough? Please let me know if the issue is not clear.

Hello @lnahrf. This was my fault, the branch should be visible now. Yes you need to do the pull request from your fork.

Just to clarify, was the contest only about the background image in the header only? I’ve noticed some designs that recreate the entire page or the text section, and I thought that wasn’t part of the contest since the demo page didn’t work that way. If that’s the case, I would have created something completely different. Now I’m starting to wonder if I misunderstood the entire competition

Anyways, good luck to everyone and thanks to the Cardano team setting this up, it was fun either way :art:

Dear all,

Thank you for taking part in the artwork contest! We are currently preparing the submissions for the jury, including making the code accessible for non-technical users to try out. Once this is ready, the jury will convene to review and discuss the entries.

We kindly ask for your patience over the next few days as we finalize these preparations. Thank you for your understanding!

:trophy: Announcement: Cardano.org Header Artwork Contest Update

Dear Cardano Community,

A huge thank you to everyone who participated in the Artwork Contest for the new Cardano.org header. Your creativity and effort mean so much to this community, and we truly appreciate your contributions.

After a thorough review, no submission met the minimum quality threshold or received the necessary level of support from the jury to move forward as the final design. As a result, the contest has been cancelled. While this isn’t the outcome we had hoped for, ensuring the highest standards for Cardano.org is essential.

Recognizing Your Efforts

Even though no winning design was selected, we deeply value your work. As a token of appreciation, the top 5 submissions will receive a special prize from the Cardano Store, with recipients notified via email.

:bulb: If you don’t receive an email, please know your contribution was still valued. Every effort strengthens our community, and we encourage you to keep creating!

Looking Ahead

In open design contests, it’s not uncommon for no submission to fully meet the artistic and technical criteria. Creativity is an iterative process, and there will be more opportunities ahead!

We remain committed to involving the community in shaping Cardano’s identity. Keep an eye out for future creative challenges, we’d love to see your work again!

Thank you again for your participation. Your passion drives this ecosystem forward, and we can’t wait to see what’s next!

So, you’ve asked community members to waste their precious time submitting their art for your contest, expecting them to adhere to your deadlines. Then you delayed the results twice by a month without even providing a simple update. After that, you decided there were no winners that met your “standards”—whatever they are—and, on top of that, you’re not even awarding the promised prize money to the top three designs?! Wow. Talk about not giving a damn about your community.

Not using the actual designs is one thing—it’s already disappointing for those who spent hours, even days, working on their submissions. But the least you could do is honor your commitment and award the top three designs their prize money. I mean, what did you expect? Professional-level designs?! This is a community contest for God’s sake.

If you had been honest from the start and mentioned in the original post that this outcome was a possibility, I wouldn’t have participated in the first place—and I’m sure I’m not the only one.

Honestly, this has left such a bitter taste that I’m starting to seriously doubt the people behind Cardano. If they can’t even be transparent with their community about a simple design contest, how can I trust them to manage such a massive operation?

I’m out.

It’s fine not to use any of the designs but you must award the prize money to the top three as promised. There was no mention of a minimum quality threshold. Had you said originally: In the case of no design meeting the quality required, no prize money at all will be rewarded then expectations would have been properly set and participants could have delegated their valuable time accordingly. Do not treat the community this way.

I think that’s really disgusting. I didn’t even participate in this contest, was just following as part of the community and I think that your decision is a slap in the face to your community. People took precious time from their lives to work on this. Bad enough that the announcement was pushed off twice and you left everyone hanging with no updates for a week after the date passed, and now this.
The excuse of “not meeting the minimum quality threshold” makes no sense, since there was no specifications given to the contestants other than a color palette, a deadline and instructions on how to submit the entry.
The right thing to do in this case would be to award the top 3 contestants with the rewards they were promised, and just not use their designs. Nobody wants your merch from your store, especially after treating them like this no one wants to rep you with your merch.
I highly suggest that you reconsider this decision before you lose a lot of community support.
