Summary :
On the first day, we covered these topics during workshop :

  • Topic-1 : Introducing to Konsep Public Permissionless Blockchain secara umum
  • Topic-2 : Introducing to Cardano Blockchain
  • Topic-3 : Practical session on how to setup and install Cardano Wallet such as Lace
  • Topic-4 : Practical session on how to build transactions on Cardano
  • Topic-5 : About mempool, block producer, consensus algorithm, and data structure of blockchain
  • Topic-6 : About important aspects such as immutability, decentralization, and transparency
  • Topic-7 : Practical session on how to use blockchain explorer such as Cardanoscan
  • Topic-8 : UTxO and EUTxO concept
  • Topic-9 : Introducing native assets on Cardano
  • Topic-10 : Introducing to web3

On the first day of the workshop, there were about 20 students attending in person and around 10 participants joining via Zoom. The workshop was conducted in a hybrid format, both online and offline. Some of the participants already had experience with cryptocurrency, but only in terms of trading and investment.

The workshop lasted for 3 hours and was designed with 45-minute sessions followed by 15 minutes for quizzes and coffee breaks to keep participants engaged and focused on the material being presented. The initial topic covered the concept of public permissionless blockchain and its definition, followed by an introduction to third-generation blockchain technology, specifically Cardano, which addresses the blockchain trilemma.

Explaining the concept of blockchain is not easy and can sometimes seem abstract. Therefore, this workshop implemented a “learning by doing” approach. After a brief overview of the general concepts and technology of blockchain, including Bitcoin, participants were directed to engage in hands-on practice.

The practical session began with the installation and setup of a Cardano wallet. The workshop introduced Lace wallet, the official wallet application developed by IOG. During the wallet setup, the concepts of public keys, which generate wallet addresses, and private keys, used for signing transactions, were explained.

Participants were then guided to fund their wallets using the Cardano Faucet. Once the wallets were funded, they practiced conducting transactions with each other. While performing these transactions, the workflow was explained, including the mempool, the consensus algorithms PoW and PoS, the selection of block producers, the transaction data encoded in blocks, and the structure of blocks. Important aspects such as immutability, decentralization, and transparency were also discussed.

To illustrate the concept of transparency, participants were directed to use a blockchain explorer, specifically Cardanoscan for this workshop. They were also introduced to the concepts of UTxO and EUTxO, allowing participants to read transaction inputs and outputs on the explorer.

In the final session of the first day, the history of the internet’s evolution from Web 1.0 to Web 3.0 was discussed. Decentralized applications (DApps) were also introduced as a segue into further learning in development and foundational web programming topics, which would be covered in the second day of the workshop.

Throughout the first day, participants appeared quite enthusiastic; they enjoyed each session and paid close attention to the material. They also had the chance to win prizes, including Cardano-branded caps for in-person attendees and 5 ADA for online participants who answered quiz questions correctly.

Some participants were unable to attend due to scheduling conflicts with their classes, but we facilitated a WhatsApp group to share downloadable material links and encouraged independent learning through the Cardano Academy’s online learning platform, CBCA, which we also promoted during the workshop and TFT. Overall, the first day of the workshop went quite well.
