Daedalus Immutable Files

Hi, I have a question, is it safe to just delete a huge chunk of immutable files that taking up space in macbook? Or there’s other technical way to do that? Or it can’t or shouldn’t be deleted at all?

Cause it took up 20GB of space.

Thanks so much!

Those immutable files are make up the local copy of the blockchain. If you delete them, next time you restart Daedalus, they will be retrieved again.

It should be remembered that Daedalus is a full node wallet, that validates the whole chain. If you want a light wallet, Yoroi may be a better choice.

Ah so it’s ok to delete them just to free up some space while I don’t use the node for a while?

Thanks so much for the help. Sorry tech dinosaur here.

Cheers!

Is it safe to move it to an external hard drive it’s taking up 100 gigs of space. I Just don’t want to change wallets. I have had this one for quite a while.

You can move to another location, but it’s not really straightforward:

You don’t have to change the wallet, just the wallet app. All Cardano wallet apps can be used to manage the same wallets (more or less). You just restore with your seed phrase in another one that is less resource hungry, that is not a full node wallet.

(If you still have a Byron wallet, it’s more complicated. Better first move to a Shelley wallet.)
