The Eastern Cardano Council (ECC) was formed in 2024, and was elected to a seat on the Interim Constitutional Committee (ICC). During the early stages of Cardano’s decentralised governance, the ECC has spent a lot of time implementing internal processes, setting up secure voting systems, and building community engagement around how we participate in governance actions and decisions regarding their constitutionality. We are proud to have represented the Cardano community during this period and believe that, despite some difficult decisions we had to make, we have conducted ourselves with integrity and transparency.
We are therefore happy to announce that we will be running for re-election in the upcoming Constitutional Committee elections. We believe that it is important for the new Constitutional Committee to maintain some continuity from the learning that has been gained by members of the ICC. So as a community elected seat, we would be happy to continue in our role (if re-elected), to help mitigate any transition risks as the new CC members onboard (which we know from experience could take some time and be somewhat challenging). We will however be making some changes in the lead up to this.
Firstly, we have updated our internal Governance Framework document, which can be found at governance/framework/ecc-goverance-framework-latest.pdf at main · Eastern-Cardano-Council/governance · GitHub . The most significant change to this, is the introduction of a section about members who hold multiple governance roles. In the interests of decentralisation, we have introduced a combined voting power threshold to restrict the influence of members who are also DReps and/or SPOs.
As part of this change, Yuta has decided to step down from the ECC at the end of our ICC term, so he can focus on his DRep responsibilities. We would like to thank Yuta for the invaluable contributions he has made to the ECC. He often brings alternate perspectives to our discussions, which has allowed the diversity in our group to be reflected in our decisions and supporting rationales.
We are therefore in the process of recruiting a replacement for Yuta, and have decided to take the opportunity to also expand our council to 7 members. This is exciting as it allows us to introduce Cardano community members from other countries in our region, bringing further diversity of thinking and fresh perspectives.
We will continue to keep the community informed as we progress through the changes to our membership, and we look forward to participating in discussions around the new Constitutional Committee elections.
Best regards,
Eastern Cardano Council
