The Frankenwallet was published in early 2021 to provide a more flexible alternative to hardware wallets — and a safer alternative than unprotected software wallets — to support operational security & privacy requirements at both user and operator levels:
Although long validated since the inclusion of this summary page on the Cardano Developer Portal:
… the current state of the project would still benefit from developer review in the following areas (all worthy of discussion, even if not identifying any particular problem):
- platform choices and descriptions of installation & configuration procedures to define the ideal operating environment while either curtailing or disabling Internet access;
- delineation of “cool” vs. “cold” environments: depending on whether impassable (“air gap”) security is needed, or simply an encrypted sandbox for software wallets and dApp usage;
- choices of encryption methods and tools: considering the strong requirements of confidential key storage and vulnerability of assets like stake pool pledges and dApp funds;
- presentational elements of the public-facing web site: including theme, navigation & user experience;
- functional elements of the GitHub repository: including software choices, integration and the build process for the public-facing web site;
- any other high-level suggestions (also welcome here on the Forum) how to make the Frankenwallet more easily understood & built, with greater assurances of security and privacy, and with any further applications or tutorial subjects.
The public web site follows the general form of a Jekyll documentation site built by GitHub workflow: an automated build process upon pushing to the repository’s main branch by any web site collaborator (currently only the original author). It is a goal of this project that — like the similarly built & open-sourced Developer Portal itself — this contribution & maintenance should eventually be extensible to any number of project collaborators.
With that in mind, please visit (and feel free to “star” and “watch”) this repository, and submit any feedback via the usual Issue and Discussion headings… or if feeling inspired (especially if spotting a mistake) please don’t be shy about submitting a Pull Request: ![]()
Note to moderators: this is deliberately posted in the “Misc” subcategory, rather than “Cardano Projects”, because this is not an introduction to the Frankenwallet project (already introduced on the Forum) but rather a call for review that should reach developers of all levels & interests.
