Recap: Zurich Meetup (13.06.2018)

Cardano Foundation is based in Zug, Switzerland, so it was only fitting to host a community meetup in the country’s largest city of Zurich. This was our first meetup in Switzerland and we were delighted with the great turnout as we welcomed in over 100 people.

The evening started with a quick introduction from Jon Moss, a member of our marketing team, and proceeded into a presentation by Michael Parsons, Chairman of Cardano Foundation. In Michael’s presentation, he shared the history of the project starting from the initial pre-sale and also explained the responsibilities of Cardano Foundation.

As many of you may know, the distribution of Ada token vouchers was done mainly in Japan. It was held over an 18 month period, compared to other ICO’s that are done over a few days to weeks. Thorough KYC (know your customer) processes were completed on every investor to ensure the funds raised were done properly and legally. If you want to learn more about the pre-launch sale, you can read about it here.

Next, Michael went on to describe and explain the roles and responsibilities of the Cardano Foundation. These are laid out in 5 core objectives:

  • Protect, Evolve and Enrich the Cardano Ecosystem
This involves responsibilities such as the appointment of FP Complete, a consultancy firm and Haskell expert to audit the code and protocol of the project; as well as our partnership with leading brand Ledger to create a hardware wallet that supports Ada. This has been an ongoing project for the past 9 months, and we expect a working device in 2018.

  • Cardano Community Management and Education
We are happy to have seen the tremendous growth in the Cardano community over the past few months. With this, we have grown our Marketing and Community Management team to run and moderate all of our community social channels.

  • Enterprise Partnerships & Commercial Alliances
Cardano Foundation is looking to evolve Cardano into an enterprise platform. This will be through partnerships with enterprises, government bodies and financial institutions, and as a collaboration with IOHK and Emurgo.

  • Shape Legislation and Commercial Standards
Again, Cardano Foundation is engaging in necessary and important discussions with governments and financial institutions to inform and influence regulations and standards for the industry moving forward. There are also research streams on blockchain technology and cryptocurrency that Cardano Foundation manages.

  • Golden Source of Cardano protocol information
Our goal is to aggregate official content to deliver accurate information to the Cardano community.

Michael also introduced some of the Cardano Foundation team members that were able to attend the event.

After the presentation, we had a great evening of community networking. With Switzerland being a country that has fully embraced cryptocurrency and blockchain technology, we met many people who are very involved in the space. We would like to thank everyone who came out and look forward to more meetups in Switzerland!
