Report on the Intersect Annual Members Meeting in Africa

Hi Community! We had a successful AMM meeting here in Africa. This is a brief report on what transpired across the hosts countries.

Event Overview:

On the 11th of October 2024, the Intersect community in Ghana gathered for the Intersect Annual Members Meeting hosted by Afia owusu in Accra, Jeremiah Baani in Northern Ghana (Nalerigu), Bandu Boaz in Goma –DRC and Herine Omollo in Nairobi Kenya. Held as an in-person dinner event starting at 4:00 p.m, the meeting took place in Accra and was attended by about 35 participants in Accra, 25 attended in Nalerigu, 20+ in Goma and 25+ in Nairobi, Kenya. We were in total 100+ participants from Ghana, Goma and Kenya attending this year’s AMM event. The highlight of the evening was the presence of Gemma and Nick, representatives from Intersect who are in charge of Africa operations, providing key insights and leadership during the session.

In addition to the in-person event, the meeting featured a hybrid component with hubs from Northern Ghana and Kenya joining online as stated in the above statements. Both hubs also held physical gatherings locally, and the Goma Hub participated earlier in the day due to time zone differences. The meeting was both reflective of the activities of 2024 and forward-looking, setting the stage for the developments and initiatives planned for 2025.

Event Details:

The session commenced with a warm welcome by Afia Owusu, the host and Regional Hub Lead in Accra Ghana, who expressed her excitement at the progress of the Intersect hubs and welcomed the attendees. Her introduction was followed by a presentation from Gemma and Nick, who provided an in-depth review of the work Intersect had undertaken in 2024, touching on governance improvements, community growth, and other milestones.

The presentation also covered the upcoming plans for 2025, which include more robust governance frameworks, expanded hub activities, and elections for the board and committee. These elections will play a critical role in shaping Intersect’s future as a platform for decentralised governance and blockchain community building.

Online Participation and Collaboration:

The online component of the meeting allowed participants from Northern Ghana and Kenya hubs to actively engage with the Accra group, ensuring a wider geographical spread of voices and ideas. The ability to connect different hubs for a unified meeting demonstrated Intersect’s commitment to fostering collaboration across regions, regardless of distance.

Conclusion:
The Intersect Annual Members Meeting provided an excellent platform for reflecting on the achievements of 2024 and laying the groundwork for what promises to be an exciting year ahead. The dinner event, enriched by both in-person and online interactions, was a significant moment of unity and shared vision for the Intersect community.
