Intersect August Update - Mena Townhall

Transcription :

Rami : Hello everybody, hope all is well. We have new people in this meeting, so we will start as usual by briefly going over what this meeting will cover. We’ll be discussing the latest update of Intersect.

Hello Chris, hope all is well. Just letting you know, we have started recording the meeting. I will share my screen and give the presentation for the latest Intersect update. I will also share the presentation from previous updates, covering the past month. It’s all in PowerPoint summaries, so you can check them out whenever you’d like. This video will also be posted on YouTube for Intersect to review.

So, I will share my screen now. Can someone tell me if you’re able to see my PowerPoint screen? Okay, great, thank you so much. Let’s begin.

This update is for Intersect August 2024, and this is the MENA Town Hall. Our agenda, as you can see, includes:

  • Chang Hard Fork Update
  • Working Group Update
  • Intersect Leadership Update
  • Rare Evo 2024 Highlights
  • Membership Updates
  • Intersect Community Hubs Highlights
  • Intersect Committees and Working Groups
  • Open Source Committee and Voting Test
  • Core Infrastructure Roadmap (CIR) Working Group
  • Constitutional Update
  • Community Grants
  • DRep Workshops and Survey
  • Governance Tooling at Rare Evo
  • Swarm Town Hall Updates
  • Last but not least, this week’s reminders and useful links.

So let’s start with the Chang Hard Fork. As we can see in this update, stake pool operators have reached 84% in preparation for the Chang hard fork. The hard fork is targeted for September 1. The Pre-Pod Network Upgrade was submitted on August 21st.

As you can see in these PowerPoints, I always include the essential links we need. I will share these PowerPoints with you, and you can open them on your PC. Press Control and click the links that are available. Next week, there’s an open call Q&A with DReps. You can check more information on Discord; the link is available in the PowerPoint. Just press Control and click on anything you see that’s blue and underlined.

Here, we have the Intersect contact information—whether you want to email Intersect or find them on Twitter for the latest news.

Moving on to the Intersect Leadership Update, Nigel Hemley has stepped down as COO, and Alex Pechanker has been appointed as the new Executive Director. He is the former non-executive board member and CTO of Token Allies DAO, and you can learn more about Token Allies DAO via the link below. Alex’s vision is to build a member-driven organization.

Now to Rare Evo 2024. It was a big event, and we can see a picture here. At the event, Intersect and Rare Evo engaged with over 100 new members and connected with Community Hub managers in Sri Lanka and Africa. Kavinda is the community manager in Sri Lanka, and you can check his Twitter or X right here. They hosted workshops and keynotes on Cardano governance.

Next, onto Membership Updates:

  • There are 20 new enterprise members.
  • Enterprise membership is now available with access to committees, open-source initiatives, grants, and more.
  • 35% of individual memberships are attributed to community hubs.
  • We now have a total of 2,650 enterprise members as of August 21st.

Now, for Community Hubs highlights:

  • In the Japan Hub, there was an event with 26 participants on August 16.
  • We can see the recording of community hub meetups in Fukuoka on August 25 and Okayama on August 24.
  • The Japan hub has over 170 individual members, making it the largest globally, so kudos to Japan!
  • In the Africa Hubs, W hosted an in-person Town Hall in GMA on August 17. You can see the posts on X, and Mercy is the manager of the Africa hub. They also attended Rare Evo.

Next up are the Intersect Committees and Working Groups. These community committees influence Cardano’s future. This is a direct link to the Intersect knowledge base, and we’ll discuss the upcoming elections. Both individual and enterprise members are eligible for committee seats. More information about the elections is in the knowledge base and the provided link. You must upgrade your membership by September 30 to participate. There’s also a Q&A session on Discord.

Moving to the Open Source Committee and voting:

  • The last day for open-source committee nominations is August 30.
  • Voting opens on September 1st and ends on September 13.
  • You can attend candidate intro sessions on September 3rd and September 11th.
  • Note that open-source committee meetings now take place on Thursdays.

Next is the Core Infrastructure Roadmap (CIR) Working Group, which is focused on key updates for Cardano’s infrastructure from 2025 onwards. This committee’s main goal is to ensure the sustainability of Cardano. More updates will be posted in the knowledge base.

Moving on to Community Grants:

  • The grantees for this round include Bloxico Constitution Portal, which is near completion of its admin access milestone.
  • Poeditor has been granted funding and is in the final stages of integrating a robust translation management system for Intersect.

For DRep Workshops, there’s an in-person workshop in Tokyo on August 31st. If anyone is nearby, you can register via the link. There’s also a DRep Survey to understand motivations and barriers—check out the link below.

Next, onto Governance Tooling and Rare Evo. Rare Evo hosted a workshop on governance tools, and the full presentation is available in the provided link. Over 6,000 users provided feedback in the last six months, which is fantastic. The team is preparing for the Chang upgrade, and the testing links for governance are available here.

Now let’s talk about Swarm. They are consistently working hard in the Cardano space and have upcoming Town Halls. Due to Rare Evo, the August 29th Town Hall will be rescheduled. For September, we have three Town Halls:

  • Planning Work Group Session 1 on Thursday, September 5th
  • Session 2 on September 12th
  • The After Town Hall on September 26th

You can register for each session via the provided links.

Before wrapping up, a few reminders for this week:

  • Delivery Assurance Report: Progress update on Cardano suppliers. All the information can be found in this report.
  • Core Infrastructure Roadmap and Discord Announcement Channel are live. You can join the channel through this link.
  • Don’t forget, as we always do in every PowerPoint presentation, I will share this PowerPoint with you all so you can dive into the details related to Intersect.

We have an Intersect Knowledge Base for detailed information on governance committees and funding. For the latest news on roadmap updates, you can go to the Intersect website. You can also participate in governance testing and community interactions via Discord and Telegram.

Social media platforms like X and LinkedIn are great for updates, and you can follow us there. Feel free to join working groups and stay connected.

I hope I didn’t take too much of your time. Thank you! This has been presented by myself, Rami Hania. I’ll take just three more minutes and then we’ll be done.

I’m not sure if you can see the other PowerPoint presentation now – maybe the Intersect Updates summary one? Great! This is a brief summary of the updates from Update 24 (end of July) until August, before the update we covered today. These updates range from Update 24 to Update 27.

  • Update 24: It’s a brief overview, covering key updates like the Technical Steering Community Committee, the Civics Committee, and the DS Committee. There are also updates on Community Hubs, Community Tooling, and upcoming events.
  • Today, we covered the latest update, Update 28 in detail.

I’ll stop sharing my screen now. I see that Mimo and Rami have joined. Thank you all for your time! If anyone has anything to add or share, we still have about 10 minutes left, as this meeting was scheduled for 30 minutes.

Hi Chris, hi Mimo! How have you been?

Chris: I’m good, thank you. Thanks so much for the presentation—it was very interesting. I’m having a technical issue with my camera, though, as Zoom can’t detect it. Anyway, I just wanted to mention that we’re just two months away from the Cardano Summit! Will any of you be attending? I’m excited to meet everyone there.

Zain : Yes, absolutely, Chris! I’ll be there. I’m usually based in Dubai, so I’m excited to see everyone who comes. I had a question about the summit too: do we already have a Community Hub Manager in Dubai, or is that position still open? I saw a form but wasn’t sure if there’s an existing manager or if the role is open for applications.

Rami: Yes, I don’t want to give you incorrect information, but I can guide you on where to find the exact answers. From what I know, there are people helping out, and they also assisted in the previous Cardano Summit in Dubai. The Cardano Foundation is usually responsible for organizing these events worldwide.

I’m happy to share that Denicio Bute, who is part of our group, is responsible for the Cardano Foundation Ambassador Program, of which I’m also a part. He’s a great person to reach out to for more details. The foundation is likely looking for people to help organize events and assist with endorsement in Dubai. Denicio would be the best person to talk to.

I hope that helps and answers your question. Thank you again, everyone, for joining. I hope to see you next month for the next Intersect update. I’ll be sharing this video on YouTube and the PowerPoint presentation on WhatsApp for anyone interested.

Thanks again, have a great weekend and a wonderful week ahead!

Goodbye!
