The project aims to enhance engagement within the Cardano community by establishing and optimizing monthly town hall meetings until December 2024. With a focus on inclusivity and adaptability, there will be collaboration with Intersect to curate diverse topics and formats for each meeting, ensuring relevance to the global/ MENA Cardano community. Through thoughtful and creative approaches, the project will be making participation in Cardano governance and interaction with Intersect accessible to individuals worldwide. Rami : Hello everybody, hello to the Middle East, North Africa, and the rest of the world. I hope everyone is doing well.
In this intersect update for September 2024, we will first listen to Juanna talking about the project “Lalkul DRep,” which, from what I know, used to involve staking pools, but it’s been shifted. We see a lot of familiar faces here, which is always nice. So, Juanna, the floor is yours. After you finish, I’ll do my little presentation on the intersect update, so I’ll mute myself. Please, go ahead.
Juanna : Great! I’ll share my screen, but first, I’ll introduce myself for those who don’t know me. I’m Juanna, and I’ve been active in the Middle East, North Africa community for quite a while and involved in Cardano specifically for a long time. I’m passionate about governance. In Fund 11, our team won a proposal to create a community drep (delegated entity), and that’s what I want to present today.
We’ve officially wrapped up that proposal, and our DRep is up and running. We’re recruiting members and delegators. The main problem we were addressing is the challenge of individuals in governance not having the expertise across all necessary domains. So, we created a collective drep model, where multiple people contribute their expertise in different areas. Our mission is to build a framework for Cardano governance that is based on sociocracy, which involves consent-based decision-making.
The team running this drep consists of people across different domain circles. We’ve started with three main circles: Policy, Infrastructure, and Applications. For example, Megan is running the Open Circle, I’m handling the Applications Circle, Ray Mat is running the Infrastructure Circle, and others are involved as well.
To join the drep, you can delegate to our Drep ID or join a circle by filling out a form or reaching out directly. We’re also almost done with our whitepaper, which outlines everything from vision to operations. We’re aiming for transparent and representative governance actions within Cardano.
That’s a quick summary! If you have any questions, feel free to ask me here or reach out individually.
Rami : Thank you, Juanna, that was great! You did a wonderful job presenting all that in such a short time—literally five minutes. That’s amazing, and I appreciate you respecting everyone’s time by being so concise and straight to the point.
If anyone has any questions for Juanna, feel free to raise them now or later. Juanna, of course, is the creator of the Cardano MENA group that we initially used, and I’m running the smaller governance group. I’m sure she’d be happy to answer any questions.
Now, let’s move on to the presentation.
I’ll go ahead and start by sharing my screen. Let me know if you can see it. Welcome to the Intersect MENA Town Hall. We have the intersect template here, which is a colorful PowerPoint presentation.
Here’s a summary of the topics:
- Intersect elections
- Application updates
- Recent events and X spaces
- Cardano Foundation joins Intersect
- Cardano Summit and Constitutional Workshop
- Annual members summit
- Membership and community conversations
- Open-source office updates
- Community hubs
- Governance tooling
- The Pioneer program
- Workshops, community grants, and milestones
- Important resources
As we can see, applications for committee and board seat elections closed on September 27th. I’ll send you this presentation afterward, and all the links to key information will be included. You can see the numbers for each committee’s applications.
In terms of upcoming events, the membership and community committee (MCC) has launched its own X account. There was a recent X space on September 15th to discuss upcoming elections.
The Cardano Foundation has officially joined Intersect to advance governance and blockchain efforts. This partnership is significant as we move into the Voltaire era of full governance. If you’re attending the upcoming Cardano Summit, make sure you register soon—tickets are running out!
On the constitutional workshops, these are in progress, and participants are synthesizing insights from completed sessions to shape the final constitution. All the necessary resources, including the draft constitution, are available in the intersect knowledge base.
The annual members meeting will take place soon, with hubs uniting local members to discuss roadmaps and budgets for Cardano’s governance. You can RSVP for the event using the link in the presentation.
On the technical side, the Constitutional Committee Portal (CC Portal) has been launched on the Cardano mainnet to enhance governance transparency. It provides access to profiles and voting records for interim constitutional committee members. The Cardano Govtool also aims to make governance accessible to ADA holders.
Finally, regarding community grants, several key projects have received funding, and metrics show 118 grants awarded across 55 countries. Don’t forget to check out Intersect’s YouTube channel for recent updates, including interviews with community leaders and committee members.
That wraps up the main points for the presentation. I’ll stop sharing my screen now.
If anyone has any questions for Juanna or myself, feel free to raise them now. Thanks again for your time!
