On 13 June, Cardano Foundation will be hosting its first meetup in Switzerland where Cardano Foundation was registered one and a half years ago. We would like to take this opportunity to share with our community members the significance of having Cardano Foundation incorporated in Switzerland, and how this has strengthened the transparency for the Foundation.
Why Switzerland? - The Global Epicenter for Cryptocurrency and Blockchain
Just a half-hour drive from Zurich, Switzerland’s largest city, is the small town Zug, which is the home of over 200 blockchain companies, including the Ethereum Foundation, Tezos and of course, Cardano Foundation.
Switzerland’s decentralised, bottom-up political culture is a natural fit for the decentralised, bottom-up cryptocurrency and blockchain technology projects. In addition, its strong privacy culture, friendly business environment as well as its predictable legal framework have enabled Zug to become the Crypto Valley, the global hub for cryptocurrency and blockchain technology.
Importance of Transparency for Cardano
In September 2016, Cardano Foundation was registered in Switzerland. Guido Schmitz-Krummacher, Board member of Cardano Foundation shared his views on the significance of registering the Foundation in Switzerland:
“First and foremost, delivering transparency for Cardano is one of the most important objectives of the Foundation. Switzerland provides the best environment to achieve this because its regulatory system allows donors and participants of a foundation project to be certain that the project that they are involved in is reliable and transparent".
"In addition, Switzerland is also the country providing the most liberal yet pragmatic legal infrastructure for blockchain technology. For instance, the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority has recently recommended its token crowdsale regulations. These recommendations are made by the authority who conducted a very thorough study of the different cryptocurrency token structures, meaning that they are recommendations made by authorities and experts who really understand blockchain technology.”
Cardano Foundation Meetup in Switzerland
Tom Kelly, Head of Marketing and Communications of Cardano Foundation, who will be hosting the upcoming meetup in Zurich, is excited to meet our local community members in Switzerland:
“We really want to go out and meet our community members as much as we can. In the end, the Cardano project is a project that is co-created by everyone from the community and we want to give our community members as much support as we can".
