Spending password on new import

Hi
I have managed to restore my old wallets assets and can now clearly see all the ADA that I once could not.
What I have now is my original wallet (Byron) with zero
My imported wallet (Byron) with the correct balance
And a new Shelly wallet where I can receive and send Ada
What I want to do is send the balance from my Imported wallet to my Shelley but when asked for the spending password it says its incorrect.
I have looked online and people are saying delete the Imported wallet and re-import it. My worry is that I have my word phrases for New Shelley and the original but not for the imported one (the one with ada in)
I am obviously concerned that I won’t be able to get back to where I am right now as the value of the wallet means a great deal to me financially.
My question is as I have checked my 12 word phrase with my original wallet am I ok to delete the import and re-import then create a new password.
Or is there any way I can transfer from the import wallet to the Shellly wallet without deleting and re-importing.
I hope you are able to help

Hello,

What I have now is my original wallet (Byron) with zero
My imported wallet (Byron) with the correct balance

u can’t import same wallet 2 times… so it means u have 2 byron wallets. one with 0 funds and one with funds on it! the 12 seed words are from original wallet (0 funds)?

In order to send the funds from byron to shelley you will need the byron spending password , even if u imported the wallet.

If u don’t have the spending password u can reset it by deleting the wallet and import again using the seed words (12 for daedalus);

to test… the seed words, try:

  • do not delete any wallets
  • go to add wallet - import and use 12 seed words… u should see a message :“the wallet is already imported” or something like that…
  • try to delete the byron wallet with 0 funds.
  • try again to import the wallet using 12 seed words/// if you are not seeing the previously message it means u are using the wrong seed words (u are restoring the byron wallets with 0 funds)
  • if u are seeing again that message “the wallet is already imported” then u can also delete the wallet imported from file (which has funds) and try to restore it using 12 seed words.

Cheers,

Hi Alex thanks for the help.
You asked…

Yeah the 12 word seed is from the original with 0 funds I was never asked to set up a 12 seed word for the new imported one (with funds in)
Going off what you suggested I should
Not delete anything!
Try to add a new wallet with 12 seed. If it says “this already exists” then I’m OK to go ahead and delete the original wallet then add new wallet using 12 seed word.
Am I OK even though I don’t have the 12 seed words on the imported wallet (with funds)
Sorry about this I’m new to it all and it very confusing.
Thanks
Mark

Hello,

That’s why I told you;

every time when a new wallet is created u need to check the seed words… first u must to copy it and next step to insert the seed words again in order to create the wallet.
Perhaps u have or u should have another seed words pasted it somewhere (maybe a picture, maybe on email, on a paper, etc)… Anyway if u are not able to find it you must try all password that u remember… maybe u will find the correct one.

without spending password u can move the funds and without the correct seed words u can reset the spending passwords.

Cheers,

I have the seed words from my original wallet (zero balance) and then I imported the wallet (with funds) I have the seed words for the original but when I imported the new one which was only 2 days ago it didn’t give me any new seed words.
I then created the Helley new wallet which I have the 28 seed word.
Do you think I will be ok with what I have
Thanks for your help
Mark

Hello,

but when I imported the new one which was only 2 days ago it didn’t give me any new seed words.

Of course not… because u imported an old wallet; u didn’t created a new wallet!

Shelley - 28 seed words? In daedalus? Can’t be true… daedalus shelley wallet has only 24 seed words… why do u have28?

Cheers,

Sorry i meant 24

Ok, then u need to move the funds from byron wallet to shelley wallet. U will need the spending password… try as many pssword u remember

Cheers,
