Unlocking Cardano’s Future: What is the Intersect Developer Advocate Program?

Hey cardano community! :rocket: Curious about how developers are actively improving the blockchain experience on Cardano? Meet the Intersect Developer Advocate Program (DAP) – a key initiative driving open-source collaboration, better tools, and stronger community support. Here’s a clear breakdown: what it is, what we do, and how you can get involved. Thread :thread:

1. What is the Developer Advocate Program?

DAP is a strategic program run by Intersect’s Open Source Office (OSO) and Open Source Committee (OSC).
It’s all about empowering developers to contribute to the Cardano ecosystem through initiatives, working groups, and community efforts.
The focus? Improving developer experience (DX) for Cardano Node, tools, docs, and projects.
It’s a paid, part-time role for selected advocates, designed to make building on Cardano more accessible, efficient, and enjoyable.
Global devs are welcome – it’s community-driven and member-based at its core.

2. Who are Developer Advocates?

Developer Advocates are passionate contributors who act as educators, communicators, and community builders.
They bridge the gap between the Cardano open-source ecosystem and developers worldwide.
By participating in working groups and initiatives, they help ensure resources, documentation, and support are top-tier for everyone – from newcomers to experienced builders.

3. What Do Developer Advocates Do?

  • Build Vibrant Communities: Organize workshops, events, and mentorship to connect devs at every level.
  • Onboard & Educate: Create and maintain guides, tutorials, and resources to lower barriers to entry.
  • Collaborate on Improvements: Join regular Developer Experience Working Group sessions to identify challenges and propose solutions for tooling, documentation, and overall DX.
  • Gather Feedback: Run surveys and share insights to guide open-source priorities.
  • Contribute Directly: Work on repos, ideate fixes, and support scalable, secure development practices.

Examples include hosting sessions, updating docs, and facilitating global meetups – all to make Cardano dev life smoother!

4. Why It Matters for Cardano

Cardano’s strength comes from its open-source, community-led approach.
DAP rewards real contributions, fosters inclusion, and keeps the ecosystem evolving.
Through Intersect – the member-based org shaping Cardano’s future – advocates help drive partnerships, diversity, and better resources.
It’s about building together for long-term growth and innovation.

First of all, I would like to express my genuine enthusiasm for the DAP program. My experience participating in this initiative has convinced me that it is a strategic and valuable path for supporting developers, whether they are newcomers, ambitious, or veterans, to further improve their performance within the Cardano ecosystem.

However, regarding your question about which Cardano development tool functionalities we would like to see improved, I would like to highlight the urgent need for systems that allow dApps to integrate Cardano wallet connections and transactions seamlessly on Android. In my view, the current reliance on desktop browser extensions has become a significant obstacle, preventing many Cardano dApps from being accessed by users who do not own a computer.

I believe that addressing this would greatly increase the adoption of Cardano dApps and empower developers to deliver more products to the community.
I am not sure if this already exists and I simply lack information on it, so please feel free to provide me with more details…
