I’ve had Cardano on Yoiri for 4 or 5 years and now that I try to log on again finally (after 3 years), it doesn’t recognize me anymore? It actually wants me to download the program from their website again!! I’ve had the same email address and phone number for as long, so what has happened? I’d like to access my Cardano.
What do you mean they are asking for email and phone number?
Do you still have the seedphrase and/or do you have a hardware wallet?
There is no login on https://yoroi-wallet.com/ and that for a good reason. With most, almost all crypto wallet apps, you do not have an “account” with them. They don’t know you at all. They don’t care.
What they provide is a wallet app that runs on your device, in your browser. It’s just a piece of software that manages wallets that exist on the blockchain, the Cardano blockchain in this case. Only that piece of software knows about your specific wallets, nothing on the server side, on the side of the wallet app developers does.
If your computer loses that knowledge – because you reinstall, because you wipe browser data, because an update of the browser does, … – only you have the seed phrase to get access to the wallet back. That’s why every wallet app is so very outspoken about keeping that phrase safe and secure when setting up a wallet. It’s the only way to get access back when the data in the wallet app are gone.
And you don’t have to use Yoroi, your ADA are not in or on Yoroi, not in the wallet app and even less somewhere on their servers. You can import/restore with the seed phrase in another wallet app and it gives you access to exactly the same wallet. The different wallet apps – Yoroi, Eternl, Typhon, Lace, Daedalus, … – are just different interfaces.
Thanks for your explanation. I haven’t viewed my Cardano for several years and it was always easy to access it for purchasing more.
I can’t even view it now but was told by another person here to try to access it again through my Ledger device.
If you have a Ledger: Never input the seed phrase anywhere except on the hardware!
You can still use all the mentioned wallet apps (and almost all others, too). They all have an option to pair/connect the Ledger instead of giving a seed phrase.
Thanks…it’s just been awhile since I’ve bought any more Cardano and I’d forgotten how to access it. I tried going to Yoiri but
got nowhere. I’ll try accessing it through my Ledger Nano instead.
Thanks again for your help!
If you have a hardware wallet, you simply have to add a wallet and connect that one with your hardware device.
If you really bought ADA 4 or 5 years ago, you might still have a Byron wallet which is only supported by a few wallets left.
I would recommand to connect your hardware device with adalite.io and see if that works.
