When setting up Yoroi wallet > connect to hardware wallet . Then adding favorites to chrome browser. Why does it not ask to sep up a password the later go back in x
BUT when you go to “create wallet” ( software version) you are give steps to follow to set up a password so one get back in to Yoroi wallet.
I wish there was a password requirement to go back to chrome browser icon located at the top bar - below the search bar.
What is the logic of not promoting for a password when later trying to connect your hardware device to Yoroi web browser wallet?
chrome browser PC
The password is not needed to access and view the wallet, only for doing transactions. (It is used to encrypt the private keys stored somewhere in the browser’s storage, but locally.)
For hardware wallets, that makes no sense. There are no private keys stored on the computer. They are in the hardware wallet. That’s their reason for existing. So, there is also no password needed.
There are other wallet apps that do some kind of access restriction, either mandatory or optionally. Not sure if that is needed or if it is even a good idea or just gives a false sense of security or privacy.
What is “protected” by such an access password is on the one hand information that is public on the blockchain, anyway (only the information that it is your wallet is maybe not public).
Everything you see in a wallet app is local to that specific computer. You are not logged in to some remote website or something like that. So, a password would only “protect” against people with access to the computer.
Doing crypto on a computer shared with people you do not trust is maybe not that brilliant of an idea, anyway. And you can always use operating system locking to keep others from accessing (which is a good idea if you really don’t trust the people with physical access to the computer).

Couldn’t have said it better. We really don’t want it to be too cumbersome for people, especially if it doesn’t actually help security in a meaningful way. But thank you for the feedback Givemesugar.
Perhaps we can do a better job educating people on wallet security. I appreciate you!
