Creating a paper wallet

Hello everyone,
So now the Shelley Mainnet is live! I’ve been waiting for this day to ask this question: How can I create a paper wallet offline? I have already opened a thread on this subject: Paper wallet for the pledge address?
I’ve been told I should wait for the Shelley Mainnet. I’m sure there’s a way to create it from source code, I just can’t find the article.

I am willing to create this wallet for the pledge address. Another question: when I choose the pledge address should I use the private key at some point? Or shall I only transfer the pledge amount to this address?

Thank you if you can help!!

Ok, so I have built my own node and found the documentation for creating the keys, so I know how I should do it for a paper wallet, no need for Daedalus or Yoroi.

But the thing is the command Cardano-cli does not find the command Shelley. A check of the “Cardano-cli” command shows only Byron era functionalities! Although I have done exactly what was asked on this documentation: https://docs.cardano.org/projects/cardano-node/en/latest/getting-started/install.html
and I built the node from source. The only thing that was different is at the end:
cp -p dist-newstyle/build/x86_64-linux/ghc-8.6.5/cardano-cli-/x/cardano-cli/build/cardano-cli/cardano-cli ~/.local/bin/
Ubuntu could not find the directory “Cardano-cli-1.9.3” directory, but it worked for “Cardano-node 1.9.3” so I supposed it was a mistake from website.

I have reinstalled my operating system and reinstalled the node: same problem.

How come I dont have Shelley functionalities? Thank you for anyone who could help

Ok guys, I’ve finally solved the problem:) pretty good feeling to do it by myself. I had to learn linux, then how to install, then find the documentation on how to create keys.

But honestly, and take it as a positive criticism, I don’t see everyone who is concerned about security doing that. Why don’t you just let people create their private keys from Daedalus offline? And I don’t want Samsung to get involved or buy their devices. That being said, I’m not even going to be a stake pool operator anytime soon because I have a very demanding profession.

I think this is a serious thing to consider for people.

Next step for me is to delegate with my staking keys on ubuntu.

Paper wallet has been available since 2017/8 for Cardano to create wallets offline. It is just that we’ve had a major release bump and not all the features are ready OOTB, but these existed before in Byron era and will resume soon for Shelley wallets

Glad you were able to sort it yourself
