I had similar issues and couldn’t connect for several weeks. It is frustrating but then it is the testnet after all, so I figured it’s all part of the learning curve. I ended up switching to Yoroi and there’re no issues at all. I should’ve done it weeks back
Is there a Yoroi desktop version?
Moderators: Sorry for the duplicate entry-delete if needed. I did try to rewrite but lazy Id’s club was bigger.
Hey duanemitchell:
Another member has mentioned Yoroi to you, and it has worked well for me in Firefox and Chrome. If you need/want multiple wallets now (multiple wallet capacity is in the works for Yoroi, according to Emurgo), it’s simple enough to: Add Yoroi extension -> seed-recover -> use recovered wallet -> remove Yoroi extension -> repeat as required. Both browsers can operate concurrent, independent cycles taking ~five minutes each to complete.
“It’s not helping anyone if I drop” ??
If for whatever reason you can’t or choose not to delegate via Daedalus Rewards, delegation via Yoroi might suit until IOHK’s next Daedalus Rewards Wallet revision is ready. CH mentioned our current alpha-beta stage in his latest update. Software function and usability data gathered from pool operators and delegators is used by IOHK to verify and improve Cardano’s systems. So, network participation, in a very real and material way, helps everyone. This alone seems to provide a logical reason to at least consider a temporary shift from the ITN Daedalus to Yoroi.
Hey ocnjcarp
At the moment, Yoroi is via an extension to Chrome and Firefox browsers, and iOS.
Don’t know about android.
If you haven’t been over to Emurgo (Yoroi’s developer), you should check it out.
Thanks deepau, I’m on a mac, not a phone. Really don’t want to get involved with another wallet that I have to keep track of. Just disappointed not some much with the Daedalus problems but just the lack of any communication from IOHK about what’s going on.
"don’t want to get involved with another wallet "
I understand you.
Obviously, it’s your call, but you need to know there are many people who seem to be grateful for, and satisfied with, Yoroi’s relative performance and simplicity while Daedalus undergoes mainnet preparations. In case you change your mind, all you have to do is install Chrome and/or Firefox for Mac, and Yoroi’s extensions here: https://yoroi-wallet.com/#/
“I’m on a mac, not a phone.”
I was just pointing out that Yoroi is available for the iPhone at Apple’s App Store in addition to Macs as a Yoroi browser extension.
“lack of any communication from IOHK about what’s going on.”
IOHK’s front-facing communication re-development for Cardano is a herculean process that’s underway now. In the meantime, it’s good to know the information does indeed exist: This forum, IOHK, Emurgo, and within official Cardano groups in Reddit and Telegram.
Because it’s an extension, you don’t need to keep track of it, unlike daedalus. It works in a completely different way. You don’t have to sync blocks, you don’t even need to log in as you’ve already logged in when you open chrome for instance. Couldn’t be easier
You should watch CH’s video updates, he talks about it. In the latest he says ITN stability improved from 40%-90% already and will get better still with each of the next 2-3 weekly updates (counting the one due today).
Rob, I’m on the Staking.cardano.org site where I downloaded the testnet wallet from. There is nothing posted there about the current daedalus issues. Nor is there any message pointing to CH’s videos or other portals of information.
Not being snarky. It would be great to be able participate in the staking process so that accurate data about how people will stake can be gathered by IOHK. You would think the staking website is where any info would be posted.
Deep I understand all those things. My small stash is staked and hopefully getting rewards but I’m not able to accurately behave as I would on the main net which I thought is one of the main things IOHK was looking to see with the testnet.
Yes, I thought the same. Possibly not the most accurate info regarding staker behaviour, well from the Daedalus users anyway. However, I dare say they’ve learnt lots of other things.
Cheers,
D
Also, despite the hassle of having to make separate Reward Wallets with separate security phrases - and having to restore them multiple times after each hiccup - I would have liked to spread funds around to help some of the smaller pools get up and experienced.
Hmmm, just got a Cardano Node Crashed notice when trying to sync. Never saw that before.
We all have two options:
- Yoroi : but, you “don’t want to get involved with another wallet” , no Yoroi for you then.
- Daedalus
Given the collective experience here, the probability is exceedingly low you’ve encountered anything unique on the Testnet. That’s one of the ‘magical’ powers of this forum.
Need help?
Sorry, I don’t agree. There is too much info, some of it rapidly changing, some of it unofficial. The main portal for staking should be as clean and simple as possible. Not saying comms couldn’t be better, just that’s not the way to do it.
New ITN1 Daedalus Wallet 2.1.0 is out right now.
Thanks for heads up.
Rob, I’m not asking for updates on all the goings on. A simple " The Daedalus Testnet Wallet is experiencing problems. We are working on an update." is all they need to do.
To expect an average user to scour the internet for relevant information and separate the official form the unofficial is asking a lot.
Even now, there is nothing on the main staking page announcing that a new version of the wallet is available. If ATADA didn’t point it out how would one know it is available?
It’s a testnet, that message would need to always be there.
There’s all the media, and there’s a splash screen when you run the program. I honestly don’t think many people, other than those looking to start staking for the first time, are going there for their info. I believe the officials think that all those interested are following the main channels, at least.
Why would people not be looking at the webpage where they would have to download any updated wallet from? There is a one sentence "STATUS: header at the top of the page.
"STATUS: 2-15-20 Version 2.1.0 now available. " is all they need.
Wouldn’t that be easier than making users look through multiple channels?
