Thank you! Looked through, as I suspected difficult to put into context through an untrained eye . That third part audit would be useful right about now. Anybody know when the next/first one is scheduled? Since the last one didn’t really count
Remember Shelly is not one monolithic implementation. Rather, it is the several individual components combining to make a whole (called Shelly). Here’s the link to IOHK Git where you can find Cardano projects open source repositories:
Hope it helps.
Thank you! It would be nice to have a third party report though, to put everything in perspective. All that foundation
just sitting there, it should be put to use. Time is wasting. Deadlines too difficult to meet. Shortage of funding?or talent?
I agree with your opinion on that. I stay as far away as possible from the garbage coins even though the profits can be explosive. It’s a trap to me so I stay away. Man RSI is damn low!
That’s odd. The messaging the way I hear things when Charles speaks makes me believe that Shelley is a monolithic type release with a defined endpoint with the exception that they are rolling out smaller chunks in prep for it. Is this not the case? I have some modeling and forecast changes if so, can you please clarify if what you said is true from IOHK’s perspective?
A protocol defines a set of rules (usually but not limited) to communicate. For example SWIFT is a network that communicates via Internet Protocol (IP).
VTP, Skype, iMessage - only build to sell products (aka making money for a single company) they do not qualify.
But, what I was trying to say with my rhetorical question, is that you can not build something like Cardano closed source. “Trustless” and “decentralized” don’t go hand in hand with “proprietary” and “closed source”.
I agree, thanx for adding this.
Sebastian’s update videos are a great place to start to understand what is going on. You may feel a little better after watching it. Way more progress than is evident in the roadmap.
Agree. Great clarification for everyone to understand.
Watch this video about the development of shelly and its releases. https://cardanoroadmap.com/#Cardano:%20Shelley%20Update-2
A monolithic software release is one in which everything has to be released to production together because the component dependencies are tightly couple. Basically, it is all or nothing. Non-monolithic (example micro services) are stand alone components that can be release individually without being tightly tied to other components of the same software, Shelly is being released in pieces. OUROBOROS is the biggest chunk of it. Once release, it will mark a major milestone in Shelly release.
too kinky
Shelley is like Zelda. We never know when the next Zelda will come out, but every time a new one comes. We are all just blown away by it.
10/10 best update of the year
5/5 Such Staking, Very update
Hey Sean. Don’t know if you saw it but Charles addresses the Shelly delays directly in the Cardano General telegram group. 11:19 PM to 11:41PM Dec 8. To long to post in its entirety but he says the engineering team is working weekends and holidays busting ass to get it done.
Thanks Donny! That puts my mind at ease a bit
Charles has got this.
That Guy:
- I had faith in Charles when he said that Shelley would be released in Q1 2018…
CH:
- We said best effort. Things in software are always complex and subject to unforeseen realities
- It is unbelieveable to me that our estimates became canon and how much grief we’ve gotten over them
- Microsoft was years late with vista
- They had over 5,000 engineers on the project and three decades of expereince shipping software
- Were bill gates and steve ballmer incompetent shills?
- We are talking about tens of thousands of lines of code assembled by 6 different companies involving protocols that didnt exist prior to our project
- There were delays because we needed to do considerably more than we anticipated. We also had to completely re-write the entire codebase
- This happens with software
- And its a reality everyone trying new things faces
That Guy:
- Alright just give straight information to us then, will we be able to stake our ADA and go fully decentralized by the end of Q1 2019. How sure are we?
CH:
- We do
- You are either willfully lying or unable to read
- Ever been to cardano roadmap
- Or listened to an ama or periscope
- We update the community weekly
That Guy:
- I wasn’t talking about how big the project is, if the project is big and unpredictable, well don’t try to predict it. Prediction of 3-5 months is not supposed to be far-fetched. Prediction of 3-5 months must be based on a testable and quantifiable evidence. Not just “hope”.
CH:
- It wasnt hope
- These were direct etismates from our engineers
- They weren’t pulled out of a hat
- We had to redesign both ouroboros and delegation
- Which made the orignal estimates wrong
- We also had to completely re-write the entire codebase
- Which also made the estimates wrong
- How is this hard to understand
- Its been repeatedly said and resaid this year
- Should we just pull a tron and fork ethereum?
- Jesus man
- We are software professionals
- Here is basically the equivalent
- We tell you that it will take three months to build a house
- Then we discover its on a swamp
- And then we discover the architect fucked up
- Then you say why are you so bad at building homes
- Stuff happens
- We on a weekly basis gave this community a play by play account of what is happening
- There have been great wins
- From icarus
- To the k-evm and iele testnets
- Yes ouroboros has had issues as has the SL codebase
- But they are resolved
- And I have two independent teams implementing them
- I get pissed off about this stuff because you are attacking dozens of good engineers
- Who are working overtime
- And making a lot of personal sacrifice
- Including weekends
- Including holidays
I am so confident in this project.
Thank you Charles for being real and transparent. You’re the guy. You’re the reason I have so much faith in this project.
Thanks for typing that up!
Agreed. But I still have to take advantage of the sell off and accompanying opportunities.
Sean,l done the same thing.l spent the weeks shopping money on ADA and me and my son,who is 4 and autistic (the ada is for him) are just gonna make it to Wednesday payday with food and drink. And l also am investing mainly because Charles seems the most trustworthy in the crypto scene.
