Need help (Infinito wallet) Byron cardano

Can’t he use Cardano’s official full node wallet Daedalus?

Daedalus should be able to gain access to Byron wallet or am I wrong?

Nope that doesnt work with Infinito keys. As far as i remember they used some other way to derive their keys.

Then he should use Moonstake wallet.
I don’t know why not to trust them.
Never heard that they have scammed their users.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Actually, I have a bit of a trust issue because I lost some money on another platform, but maybe I should give it a try.

Thats not bad at all but i mean we are helping in this forum since years and this wallet is literally the only solution we found for this very specific issue.

If you have trust issues, then change to Ledger, Trezor, Ellipal or especially to Keystone Pro for Cardano.

Use Eternl or Typhon with a hardwarewallet for example.

I used HW devices since the beginning.
I don’t like mnemonic wallets.

As @Zyroxa already said: There is no single entity “Cardano” responsible for everything that is happening on Cardano.

Yes, the founding entities and other large players have some responsibility to help with problems with their stuff, but this is about a third-party wallet app that has long gone out of business.

This is totally hindsight, but not only in Cardano, but in crypto in general, it is always a good idea to research beforehand how dependent you are on single entities. In the case of wallet apps, check if you can restore/import the wallet in other wallet apps in case there are problems with one. That’s just one of the extra steps that are kind of necessary when you want to “be your own bank” in a decentralised and permissionless environment.

We do try to help users in this forum and this specific problem with Infinito Byron wallets not following any standard has come up for years. The most I personally tried – unsuccessfully – is summarised in:

So, the users that claim that they could import that private key file that I have no idea how it works into Moonstake are still – after years – the only success stories in this area.

Yes, it would be better to have a more open solution telling us exactly what it does, but we can’t magically create that without information from Infinito what they did back then.

Yes, it is very good to be very cautious. If it works, move it to a new (ideally hardware) wallet as soon as possible, obviously.
