Recap: IOHK Haskell Course Graduation in Ethiopia

We are excited to share that the graduation ceremony for IOHK’s Haskell Course in Ethiopia was held last week! 19 Ethiopian and 4 Ugandans students graduated from the program held by Lars Brünjes, director of education, Polina Vinogradova, formal methods expert and Philip Wadler, senior research fellow of IOHK. The course went over Haskell as well as Plutus and Marlowe, smart contract programming languages.

This course was in conjunction with the memorandum of understanding (MOU) which IOHK signed with the Ethiopian government last May to train and hire junior software developers and use Cardano in its agriculture industry. This graduation marked another step towards this promise being realized.

Speeches were given by John O’Connor, Charles Hoskinson and Lars from the IOHK team at the event - where Charles said a wonderful quote: “Thank you for all you’ve done. You’re all going to be great entrepreneurs and leaders. We could wake up one day and Ethiopia becomes the tech leader.” The graduates were also joined by Dr. Ing.Getahun Mekuria, Minister of Innovation and Technology of Ethiopia!
