Shelley Testnet: Your weekly rollout rollup. Week Seven: W/E 9th August 2019

Week Seven: W/E 9th August 2019

Each week, this newsletter is where we share a high-level summary of key achievements and what’s been going on. Remember, for the very latest technical updates you can follow all the commits and pull requests in the community GitHub.

What’s Up
This week we released a new Jormungandr build, v0.3.2. This third testnet release has closed a number of issues, fixed some bugs and housekeeping issues. It also brought some enhancements including some early code to start bringing in network capabilities. Thanks to everyone who has contributed so far and helped make the latest build the most robust and fully featured one yet! We look forward to your comments on the new build!

Documentation and guides
We’ve recently filmed a series of bitesize explainer videos with Duncan Coutts, Chief Technical Architect at IOHK to help explain some of the key protocols and principles that support Cardano Shelley. We’ll be releasing more of these over the coming weeks to help support the program. From staking to delegation, monitoring to validation, Duncan will tackle the topics we all want to learn more about. The first video can be found here.

Community Content

  • Our friend and Cardano Ambassador Tommy from ADAtainment creates great videos, covering key Cardano topics in a super accessible way. Make sure you visit his channel to subscribe and take a look at this video on Shelley address types while you are there!
  • A few of you in the community have commented on a Github page, where the Rust team have outlined the goals of the project and added some percentages. It’s caused a bit of speculation around timelines. Please remember, when building new software, these are notoriously hard to predict. The percentages here are just internal measures and don’t reflect the time to testnet deployment. Nevertheless, do take a look for a more granular understanding of the key development going on behind the scenes here.

Releases
This past week, DevOps has created 0.3.2 jormungandr-nix, snappy packages, and updated the homebrew packages. They have also published the 0.3.2 chocolatey package. Please see Shelley Testnet Infrastructure for instructions on how to use these packages.

That’s it for now!

Thanks
