Hello! So I’m trying to help my mother access Cardano/ADA that she hasn’t touched in 7 years. I’m kinda new to cryptocurrency but learning as I go so I can help her. She thought she moved all her cardano/ada to her cold wallet but we don’t see it in there. She has a lot of notes and addresses and things so I’m trying to piece together where it could be cause she doesn’t remember if they could be on an exchange or a mobile wallet or some such. I found some addresses that are ae/byron era and looked them up on an explorer and have located a significant amount that still have balances. Is there a way to use these addresses to track down where they could be? Thank you!
There are only very few wallet apps left that can still do Byron wallets.
https://adalite.io/, https://adawallet.io/, and https://daedaluswallet.io/ are the last three wallet apps that I know that can still manage them. Where I would not necessarily try Daedalus, since it needs hundreds of GiB disk space and many hours to sync (or is the Mithril integration live now? then it would be “just” an hour or so).
What do you, does she mean by “cold wallet”? Not sure how easily you can convince them to try Byron era wallets with a hardware wallet or if they can do paper wallets with a strange seed phrase size.
Thanks so much for responding. We actually found the Cardano on her Trezor (this is what I meant by cold wallet, sorry)!! So relieved. I did some digging and I guess maybe Trezor suite isn’t loading her Cardano on their software because it’s older, but when connected to a third party wallet it is visible. I connected the Trezor hardware to adalite and it’s all showing up there. My question now is, what’s the best way to secure it so there’s no longer issues viewing/accessing it in Trezor? Am I able to change the ae/byron era address/wallet to a newer one? Sorry, big newbie.
You could send everything to the (Shelley) address shown to you in Trezor Suite, so that you can then control it by Trezor Suite.
