Yoroi Mobile App Preventing Catalyst Voting Process

I woke up this morning feeling enthused about registering my wallet to participate in the Catalyst Fund13 voting process, but I was intentionally denied because the Yoroi Mobile App would not allow me to proceed connecting to the Catalyst Voting App even though I had it installed.

I thought my Catalyst Voting App had a defect, but I checked, and there is no recent update available in the App Store for it. Out of frustration, I deleted and reinstalled the Catalyst Voting App, but the problem still persists in the Yoroi Mobile App.

What I deduce from this instance is that the Yoroi Mobile App—which is up to date—is unable to detect and acknowledge that the Catalyst Voting App is installed and working fine as the “continue” button remains grayed out.

What solution, aside from what I have tried, is available?

I have discovered some anomalies with the Yoroi Chrome version, and for that matter, I am not feeling comfortable putting my seed phrase there.

Did you already try to restore your wallet in a different software wallet like Typhon and then go through the registration process there?

Yay! I have discovered that Eternl works fine; I plan to share a tutorial soon!

In our parts of the world and community, Yoroi is the most popular, and people don’t easily embrace the idea of switching wallets. Eternl is also a bit popular, so it might be useful, but I recommend Yoroi’s issues be fixed ASAP; else a majority of potential voters from our region (Africa) will be cut out.

I’m seeing the same when I install Yoroi on Android.

It also falsely says that voter rewards are distributed to stake keys and I have to delegate to a stake pool to receive them. That has not been the case since Fund10.

What worries me is that they say “11/20/24, 21:45:00: Registration start”. That is actually the deadline for the registration (https://docs.projectcatalyst.io/current-fund/fund-basics/fund-timeline). Is it possible that the button is greyed out because they plan to only open the registration when it’s too late?

For what it’s worth: Desktop version of Yoroi seems to work.

Edit:

If that is not clear: My suspicion is that Yoroi doesn’t actually check if the Catalyst voting app is installed and that is just a reminder that is always shown – “make sure” and links to both, Apple App Store and Google Play look pretty static to me. That would make a lot of sense since the Catalyst voting app can very well be on a different device. There’s no need at all to have it on the same device, to have it before registering, to not uninstall it in the meantime and just reinstall it shortly before voting, …

Hence the theory that the greyed out button has a different reason.

Sadly I don’t vote in catalysts which I’d love to, due to issues with yoroi similar to your above.

You can use any other wallet like Vespr or Eternl to register your wallet for Project Catalyst if you arent able to do so with Yoroi.

a real disappointment on yoroi same problem and also all my friends we can’t participate in the vote none of them by changing the yoroi wallet should fix this problem I would say to vote starting by saying that you have to make the wallets work on any device

That problem is not good at all … and it is not the first Yoroi one over the years, related to Catalyst and other things.

And I have also expressed countless things I am very dissatisfied with in Catalyst.

But: Waiting with the vote until all of the countless wallet apps got their support together is completely unrealistic. That the voting registration deadline was 20th November was spammed by the Catalyst team into every possible channel countless times like they do it every single fund. When there were problems registering, they could have been (and were in many, many cases) solved ahead of time. Some responsibility will always be with the users in a dentralised and permissionless system.

Certainly, it is safe to assume that a lot of wallets were left out of the vote participation in this funding round. I am a victim, and it hurts a lot to not be able to exercise my fundamental right due to some system errors that should have been handled by a team that receives salaries for the work they do.
I think some investigations must be conducted, and those liable for this flaw must be dealt with.

I’ve been a long time Yoroi user but recently switched to Eternl and I’m not going back! I strongly encourage people to check it out!
