For some reason there are 12312312 wallets, that all use different addresses and recovery phrases. What is this shit? Why is everything so confusing? This has to be the worst shit ive ever seen. And all these stupid names just add to the confusion. For some reason theres Byron, Byron legacy, Shelley, Shelley testnet etc. Who came up with this idea?
Heres my situation: I made a wallet 2 years ago. I restored it. Now you can’t do anything with that wallet anymore. So I made one of the new ones (Shelley). However I’m not sure whether the addresses from one wallet or the others are INTERCHANGEABLE or not. Can somebody send ADA from an old wallet to a new one by using the address provided by the shelley wallet or not?
Why is something so simple so hard to find out? Is this project maintained by morons? It could potentially mean that if somebody bought ADA , and the exchange used an old wallet, the person would never get the ADA.
CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME: IS IT POSSIBLE TO SEND ADA FROM AN OLD WALLET TO A NEW ONE BY USING THE NEW ADDRESS? IS IT POSSIBLE TO SEND ADA FROM A NEW WALLET TO AN OLD ONE BY USING THE OLD ADDRESS?
Man I’m honestly trying to figure this all out myself!! I have ADA in a trezor, using Yoroi… I updated trezor firmware that supports Shelley, and also have the latest version of yoroi. This Trezor is a “Bryon Era” wallet and technically doesnt exist in the “shelley era”… its 2 different blockchains… I feel helpless and overwhelmed. How do I restore my Bryon trezor, into shelley? Anyone know??
Yes, I’m fairly certain you can. It might be helpful to give specifics so that you can get some good advice to assist with your problem.
What wallet did you create 2 years ago? Yoroi? Daedalus?
Is your new wallet is a Daedalus wallet?
I have hope for your situation. I have been able to transfer all my ada from a number of old wallets (paper, yoroi, daedalus and Ledger) to my new Shelley wallet in Daedalus so I can stake. I’m pretty sure you will be able to as well.
What do you mean you are fairly certain you can? Why is this even a question? Why are you not 100% sure ?
I have the oldest wallet you can have (daedalus) from when ADA came out. It’s not even possible to sync it because the daeadalus app is so fucking buggy and keeps syncing (which takes hours) starting from 0%. You don’t seem to understand m y question however. Can somebody send ADA from an old wallet to my new one by using the address created in the old wallet? Can I send ADA from my new wallet to an old one?
I’m not 100% certain because I am not in your exact position. You might try to send a small amount as a test and see.
Daedalus does take a while to connect and sync up but once it is all ready I was able to transfer from Byron wallets to Shelley wallets. I trust this will be the same for you too.
Can anybody else help Qwerty out with a bit more certainty?
There’s not much wrong with Daedalus, the problems you’re seeing are due to network congestion, everyone trying to sync at the same time, when the network has barely started to scale up.
In the current version of Daedalus you get the option to recover a Byron wallet and transfer (special process, not normal send) contents to a new Shelley one. Come back here with details if you have specific questions.
(Edit: you could use the Chrome browser extension version of Yoroi and avoid the need to sync. I don’t believe the mobile or Firefox versions do this yet.)
Sorry but by putting a substantial amount of money into crypto (any crypto) two years ago and not following the project quite closely you made a mistake. Very early adopters of extremely complicated and innovate tech have to expect hiccups.
