Davos Recap: Cardano rocks in Davos
The Cardano Foundation, for the second year in a row, was honored to represent Cardano in Davos during the World Economic Forum (WEF) in late January 2020. For the first time, the largest Cardano delegation to date included executives from our ecosystem partners – Input Output HK (IOHK) and EMURGO. The 10-strong Cardano delegation descended from far and wide—from Singapore, United States, Canada, United Kingdom and Switzerland—with the Swiss town in Graubünden meeting us with -16°C (+3°F), heavy traffic, tight security and spirit of Davos, a feeling of collaboratively being able to change the world for the better. United with a common purpose of promoting Cardano, three entities came together as one to the most important global gathering of the year in the Rhaetian Alps. Even the ranging elevation from 1,560 meters (5,120 feet) to 3,146 meters (10,322 feet) above sea level, daily four-hour sleeps, 70-minute train commutes every morning and an 8-hour time difference did not deter us from our mission – promoting Cardano.

Charles’s Cardano video updates: Important details and information about upcoming Shelley releases and roll-out dates
This week, Charles Hoskinson released two Cardano video updates. In the first video update of the week on 3 February, Charles Hoskinson discussed the coming releases for the incentivized testnet. He also laid out key milestones and announcements for the month of February.
- The regular Wednesday update of Jormungandr will be delayed until a major release alongside Daedalus and the wallet backend on Friday the 14th.
- The upcoming release should increase stability and solve some of the difficulties which have been recently reported with Daedalus.
- The OBFT hard fork will tentatively occur on 20 February. The Byron reboot with the Haskell wallet backend will happen shortly thereafter.
- Work is currently underway with both PwC and McCann for the commercialization push.
In his second video update on 5 February, Charles Hoskinson focused on coming releases for the incentivized testnet, after a high-level meeting with his team about the functional and non-functional requirements for the Shelley testnet.
- Cardano was built by leading with a formal methods and peer-reviewed approach to creating evidence based software.
- We are nearing the completion of the science around Ouroboros, and it is now time to tell the world what we did and why it is important.
- The switch to the Haskell Shelley testnet will happen in two phases. First for the stake pool operators transferring from the ITN and then for the wider user base.
- We are currently looking at not only the Cardano Improvement Proposal (CIP) process, but also a Cardano enhancement process which will drive adoption of ada.
- We have begun exploring wider partnerships in commercialization.

EMURGO establishes Strategic Task Force with Uzbek Government to develop framework for Security Token Offerings and exchanges
Last month, EMURGO announced the establishment of a blockchain task force with the National Agency of Project Management (NAPM) under the Uzbek Government – alongside advisors KOBEA Group and Infinity Blockchain Holdings – to lead the development of a legal framework for security token offerings (STOs) and exchanges (STXs) in the Central Asian state. In addition, EMURGO and KOBEA will advise officials in Tashkent on infrastructure for digital asset banking and exchange and blockchain education units. EMURGO will provide advisory services to develop the framework and business units with the task force and mutually explore the potential for Cardano’s third-generation blockchain for infrastructure projects in the former Soviet republic.
Fun fact: the Cardano Community has an Uzbek Cardano Ambassador @SeanAlimov.
