Daedalus monterey install failed

Hi all,

I’ve been using Daedalus since 2017 (v0.x.x) on my MacBooks, now I have a new 16" M1Pro macbook (Monterey OS) where daedalus was successfully installed on in December '21. However, after a recent clean re-install of the Monterey OS the new Daedalus install-process ended with a ‘Install failed’ message ?

However, I could find the Daedalus application, start it and I’m currently syncing it.

In the mean time I was able to restore a small wallet on it.

Tech support let me know:

"Officially, Monterey and Windows 11 are not supported by Daedalus, but on some users’ computers, Daedalus can function on them, but there might be some problems we don’t know so we cannot guarantee that. "

I’m currently putting in a request to them to clarify in what aspect those problems might arise. Security, crashes or other issues.

I wonder what your experiences are with working Daedalus after a possibly ‘failed install’…

To be clear: common sense already told me to be very, very careful before I commit myself to this install of course.

In case of emergency when I find out I cannot access my funds in de Daedalus wallet: is it, or is it not, possible to restore my Daedalus-wallets in Yoroi ? Or would I be obliged to transfer my funds to a Yoroi wallet (which would be impossible) ?

Lots of questions, no exact fitting answers found yet on this forum, so I hope you can help me out.

Thanks and have a nice day !

hi,

I don’t have experience with Monterey and Daedalus but you can restore the daedalus wallet on many other cardano wallets (yoroi, adalite.io, ccvault, etc) using the seed words.

Cheers,

Thanks, info I got/found was varying case by case and inconclusive, so good to know :+1:t2:

If it’s from 2017: Do you still have a Byron wallet or did you move to Shelley?

Byron would only work in Daedalus and Yoroi.

What I meant, is I’m quite familiar with Daedalus, because it is my (main) wallet and I prefer the full-node wallet. Of course I updated to the new versions of Daedalus when they came available.

thanks

Hi @neoinair

Thanks for reporting this. We have already fixed that issue and it will be shipped in the next release.

The installer was using python2 and in Monterey 12.3 this has been deprecated (macOS Monterey 12.3 will remove Python 2.7 (/usr/bin/python) – macmule).

So although the installer tells you that an error occurred, Daedalus gets properly installed. You can ignore that error and wait for the next release.

Have a great day!

Sorry, but Ewww! https://www.python.org/doc/sunset-python-2/ Two years …

Hi Shawn,

Thanks for your reply. I’d appreciate to hear the same via my support ticket (official way) to which I described the exact same problem. An answer was sent that it just was not tested on monterey, but this extra information that it should be ready and especially secure (!) to use, wasn’t given (yet).

I’m sorry for my paranoia and I’m new here, but being IOHK-TEAM member is already sufficient verification of identity in this forum ? Can others confirm ? (especially for future topics)

Please forgive my cautiousness but I’m sure you’ll understand in this cryptoshpere :pray:t2: and your input is much appreciated

Kind regards !

In addition:

I’m not familiar with Python and that kind of stuff, but i see how this explains in my particular situation that Daedalus did install correctly with the OS 12.1.x or 12.2.x version at that time.

Only after the clean OS-re-install, automatically OS version 12.3.x (with Python removed) was installed and this gave the ‘failed install’ caution. It now all adds up indeed to explain why first it was okay and later it was not.

Thanks a lot for the input !

I don’t quite know who your support ticket goes to, but as developers on the wallet team, we can give very detailed answers. In fact, I personally fact checked what I told you with someone who worked closer to the issue.
