Dedalus 7.1.0 - Cardano node crashed at 99% - neverending loop

Hi all Cardano folks

Just have some problem with Cardano node crashing at 99% on verifying on-disk blockchain state or 99% replaying ledger from on-disk blockchain, and then it’s start from 0

Background:

I was syncing Daedalus with older version, then got notification about update, updated & restarted and left my PC on overnight, on the morning Daedalus wasn’t synced yet. After another 9 hours i spotted the % of progress was less than before, then I spotted that Cardano node is crashing and starting again the whole process over and over again.

So I uninstalled Daedalus, deleted folder with blockchain files (over 50GB) and started again syncing, unfortunately results was same

System I’m running on is Windows 11 Pro (booted from WindowsToGo USB SSD drive,BitLocker encrypted), Intel® Core™ i3-14100T, 16GB RAM, 250GB M2 SSD.

Here is a screen record how it’s looks like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbXhOkdCxK8

Thanks for any help.

Is there a specific reason you are using Daedalus? Just use a litewallet like Typhon or Eternl and restore your funds there.

16 GiB RAM is now a bit on the low end.

And 250 GiB disk won’t be sufficient. The chain alone is 200 GiB by now.

As @Zyroxa said: Unless you have a very good and specific reason why you want to use Daedalus, just don’t bother and use one of the other light wallets: https://cardano.org/what-is-ada/#wallets

Ok thanks all of you for some more information, I will consider using alternatives as you suggested

Forgot to mention 250GB are internal SSD in that PC, but I’m running Windows 11 from external 1TB SSD disk with BitLocker encryption, 200GB chain doesn’t scare me  Will try RAM upgrade at some point and will check if this problem will still be here.

Thanks all

Yes,

This provides maximum security and completely trustless operation, without centrally hosted third-party servers.

The security benefits are really not that huge.

If you want security, use a hardware wallet with any wallet app you like, make sure that the seed phrase is never known to any electronic device other than the hardware wallet itself and be done.

The trustless operation, well, I think its need is very much exaggerated. There have to be “enough” independent actors running nodes and validating the chain. But there is no need that every end user does it themselve.

16G of RAM is definitely on the low end. I could not keep Daedalus running until I switched to a machine with 32G.

Does it put the chain on the external disk?

Daedalus is famous for making it hard to choose on which disk it will put the huge chain:
