Hey everyone,
I’m having some trouble with my Ledger Nano S after updating the firmware this morning to version 2.1.0. Everything seemed fine at first, but then I noticed that the Cardano wallet size has increased significantly, and now I can’t reinstall it because it no longer fits on the device.
I do have my seed phrase, so I know I can recover the wallet, but I really need to figure out how to get the AdaWallet back on the Ledger Nano S. Ideally, I would like to install it with a lower firmware version that allows it to fit again.
If this is not possible, I would like to buy a more capable wallet like the Ledger Nano X. But I am afraid that the seed phrase is not working with this device.
Has anyone else faced this issue or have any advice on how to resolve it? Any support or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

I was in contact with a developer for the Cardano app for Ledger and according to him, the released version is to big and Ledger is aware of the situation.
However it may not be the top prio for Ledger to fix the situation as fast as possible. So if you need access right now, you would have to buy a newer Ledger device with more storage but if you can wait, they will probably fix it.

Thank you for your answer!
Can I just buy any other ledger device and use the recovery phrase?
Is it also possible to use a offline wallet from another company?

Yes you could buy a new Ledger device and use your seedphrase to restore your keys.
In theory this is possible but it would have to use the same derivation path as Ledger does.

Trezor can derive with the same root key derivation as Ledger.
(The derivation paths are the same, anyway, there is no difference and never was. But if you start the derivation from another root that doesn’t help much.)
But you would need to use a wallet app that can also select this option. Trezor’s own Trezor Suite obviously can and Eternl has the option to select the root key derivation during pairing, for the others I’m not too sure if they allow that.

i have the same problem, but i must need the version for the nano s ,a change to nano s plus or others is not possible, because i stake my ada on the adalite pool ,so i must log in with the nano s
Also i have the worldmobile token and can not change the device, i need the nano s Hope the fix comes soon othewise i loose a lot of money Its no a fair way from ledger, you pay a lot for a device and a few years later i doesn t work anymore I think there make money enough that this problem is a BIG problem and must be fix asap

None of the reasons you give prevent you from going to a new device.
If you restore the new device with your existing seed phrase, it will give you access to exactly the same wallet.
Complaining here won’t help much. Complain to them.
Don’t know how far it will get you, though.

Hi, I am also in the same situation since yesterday.
I stake my ADA on the Yoroi Wallet and yesterday I just wanted to withdraw my rewards because I’ve delegated my ADA to a “cardanians-pool”. In the past I withdrew my rewards a couple of times without having any problems. This time I got an “unexpected error, try again” message every time I was trying to do so. I read on the internet I had to update the firmware of my Nano S, and well… the rest you know.
Does anyone have experience with the “Yoroi Wallet”? I think I am buying a new Nano X and hope it will work everything fine.

That error doesn’t necessarily sound like that update would have been necessary. Could have also been a temporary glitch of Yoroi or something fixed by un- and reinstalling and pairing the Nano S again.
But now that the firmware update has been done, you will unfortunately have to wait until Ledger provides an app that does fit on the Nano S.
Since Yoroi was one of the first wallet apps and provided by one of the founding entities, “anyone” are still a lot of people.
But you are not restricted to it at all. You can manage the same wallet with Ledger Live, with Eternl, Lace, Typhon, … by just pairing the Ledger to them instead of Yoroi.

Not at the moment.
The app on the Ledger is needed to authorise every transaction.
Right now, the two options are: 1. Wait for Ledger to provide a small enough app for the Nano S. 2. Restore on a Nano S+, Nano X, or Trezor.
Right now you the size of the walled dropped down to where it fits perfectly.
I can now change to the NANO X!
Good day everyone
