Just restore the wallet with your seedphrase and set a new password.

yep but cant reset the wallet without password or should i just delete and reload the extension?

Yes, delete the wallet or the extension.

You can also first test that the seed phrase is correct in another browser or another (better) wallet app – Eternl, Typhon, Flint, …, see links at https://developers.cardano.org/showcase/?tags=wallet.

(If you want to use Nami in parallel with the same wallet – for whatever reason – make sure to choose single address mode in Eternl and/or Typhon.)

Weird right? Too many people, included me, seem to not remember their password with Nami… Something must have been wrong with the wallet. I can’t even find the encrypted key in the local storage of the Chrome extension…

Pardon Sean, for some reason my Nami password too has been rejected. So based on your explanation here, would the following steps be correct?

Intended steps:

  1. Open a new wallet in Eternl using the 24 word seed phrase from Nami
  2. This new wallet in Eternl is to make sure my seed phrase is correct
  3. If it is correct than I need to delete the current Nami extension
  4. And then reinstall Nami again and fill in the 24 word seed phrase
  5. Input the new password
  6. Access the funds from the reinstalled Nami wallet

Ideal/precautionary steps:

  1. Install a Nami extension in a new computer
  2. Insert the 24 word seed phrase
  3. Input the new password
  4. Delete the initial Nami account in the old computer
  5. Access the funds from the Nami account in the new computer

Yes thats correct. By restoring your wallet with your seedphrase, you will be able to set a new spending password.

So make sure you have the correct seedphrase.

Yes, sounds like one possible sequence to do it.

The important things are:

  1. Don’t give the seed phrase to anything that is not a reasonably trustworthy software or anyone at all. Check that the source of the extension corresponds to what is linked on the official homepage which in turn is linked from a rather official source like https://cardano.org/what-is-ada/#wallets.
  2. Don’t delete anything before knowing that something else works. In case you find out that the seed phrase is wrong, it’s good to still also have the chance to maybe guess the spending password.

The seed phrases should work in any wallet app – Eternl, Lace, Typhon, ….
You don’t strictly have to switch back to Nami after repairing this. It’s not that actively maintained anymore. Fair guess that IOG – who now owns both, Nami and Lace – will want users to migrate to Lace at some point.
But you are free to look at all of them and choose.

Well noted and thank you Zyroxa. Please allow me to attempt to restore and will get back to you with the result.

Very much appreciate the in-depth response and insights Sean. Please allow me to attempt to restore and will get back to you with the result.

To @Zyroxa and @HeptaSean

The following are my findings/actions:

  1. Open a new wallet in Eternl using the 24 word seed phrase from Nami on the new/different computer
  2. This new wallet in Eternl is to make sure my seed phrase is correct
  3. As per Sean’s new input, attempted to transact using the Eternl account but was not able to
  4. The intended transaction was to burn SHEN (through djed.xyz/shen)
  5. The new wallet in Eternl was connected to djed.xyz/shen but was not able to burn for it needed collateral
  6. Continued to then install a Nami extension on the new/different computer
  7. Insert the 24 word seed phrase
  8. Input the new password
  9. Was able to burn the SHEN with the new password
  10. Curiously enough was not able to send the ADA in the new Nami wallet outside of the wallet with the new password
  11. Attempted to send the ADA from the new Eternl account in the new/different computer and was not able to send the ADA inside
  12. Continued to create a new Eternl account in the old/initial computer
  13. Was finally able to send the ADA to the designated wallet intended

KEYNOTE/NOTEABLE FINDINGS:
Is point 10 above. There seems to be something blocking Nami wallet to send ADA outside their wallet. I have made sure to input the new password but was always detected as “wrong password”. Perhaps this is something needed to be known by the community.
