Hey,
I am trying to reopen my Daedalus wallet on an old hard drive that is now connected to my PC after not using it for a few years. The wallet sync is in progress but has been stuck at 98.1% for several days.
I’m still waiting to see if it completes, but I’m considering using the secret file to recover the wallet into a new instance. However, I’ve noticed that the folder where the secret file should be is currently empty.
Is there any chance that, once the sync (currently at 98.1%) is completed, the secret file will be restored to the folder? Unfortunately, I don’t have the recovery phrase saved anywhere else.
I do not have the seed phrase, which is why I am trying to load the old wallet to retrieve the secret.key file in the secret folder. Will it appear there once the wallet finishes loading?
Not as familiar anymore (haven’t run a Daedalus in years, no reason to), but:
No, it would be very surprising if something appears there just because it is finished syncing. The syncing is only considered with getting all the public information about history and state of the chain, has nothing to do with your secrets.
If I read https://iohk.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360010477234-Preventing-loss-of-ada and other sources from IOG correctly, the secret.key file was only used by (now very) old versions of Daedalus and for newer versions, they are stored somewhere else and for some reason never say exactly where. I guess the wallets/ directory?
Best thing you can do is try to let it sync completely. If the computer is not able to: Try a more powerful one. Install Daedalus and replace the whole state directory with a copy of your current one and hope that works.
