On-chain metrics for transactions, block propagation and smart contracts are supposed to improve significantly but if you’re talking about Daedalus syncing your wallet with the blockchain, I think you will have to wait until Mithril is fully developed till you have a significant improvement. The Proof of Concept has been released as open source so it looks like they are starting to test it.
